Twin Valley League Teams Compete Against Each Other at Valley Heights Track Invite

Track season opened for a few and continued for a few others at the Valley Heights Invitational on Tuesday as the Mustangs hosted many fellow Twin Valley League teams, along with a few other teams, too.

In the girls competition it was one of two teams from north of the border out of Nebraska that claimed the team title as Pawnee City posted 182 points to win the team crown. Linn Bulldogs finished second place with 133 points and B&B rounded out the top three in third with 102 points. The rest of the team finishes were: Valley Heights (4th), Axtell (5th), Hanover (6th), Southern (7th), Troy (8th), Wabaunsee (9th) and St. Xavier (10th).

On the boy's side of competition it was Linn claiming first place as the only team to amass 100+ points on the day finishing with 111 points. The host Valley Heights took home second place with 97 points, while Frankfort came in third with 91 points. The rest of the team finishes were: Hanover (4th), Pawnee City (5th), Axtell (6th), Southern (7th), Blue Valley-Randolph (8th), B&B (9th), Wabaunsee (10th) and Troy (11th).

The Pawnee City girls on their way to a first place team finish were led by five individual first place finishes including a pair of first place showings by Mariah Willey who won the 100 meter hurdles (15.74) and the long jump (16'11). Shelby Hundley made it a swept in the hurdles for Pawnee City as she won the 300 meter hurdles with a time 47.59. While, Olivia Farwell and Jenna Habegger each won a field event on the day for the Indians. Farwell claimed the pole vault title (7'06), while Habegger won the discus (105'04.50).

For Linn who finished second place Nicole Ohlde lead the way winning both the 800 and 1600 meter runs with times of 2:43.86 and 6:10.43. The lady Bulldogs 4x400 meter relay team of Rachel Bott, Kesiah Thalmann, Ohlde and Kendra Bargman claimed first place, too behind a time of 4:25.09. While, Acacia Thalmann and Hannah Bott each won a field event claiming titles in teh high jump (5'00) and javelin (108'04), respectively.

B&B lady Falcons continued a strong start to the year with a third place team finish on the day. The lady Falcons group of Samantha Wessel, Jenna Macke, Ashley Kramer and Cassidy Hulsing took home the 4x100 meter relay gold with a time of 52.75. Wessel added to her day winning the triple jump, too behind a leap of 31'03.50, while Laura Sudbeck claimed the shot put title with a toss of 38'00.50.

The host Valley Heights day was highlighted by Brandi Jo Roepke in the girls competition won was the only girl to win three events on the day claiming first in the 100, 200 and 400 meter races. Roepke posted times of 12.52, 26.15 and 59.40 to win all three of those events on the day.

Axtell was the only other school in the girls competition to have first place finishes on the day as the Eagles 4x800 meter relay team of Anna Buessing, Ashley Buessing, Kiersten Talbot and Courtney Heinen raced their way to gold (11:16.44) and Susan Peschel won the 3200 meter run (14:40.30).

On the boys side it was Linn leading the charge claiming first place as a team and had five first place finishes in the events on the day. Kurt Van Der Mewe led the Bulldogs sprinting to wins in the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 11.05 and 22.38. Kurt was also part of the Bulldogs 4x100 meter relay team win as they posted a time of 45.15; he partnered with Chad Gross, Chad Diederich and Micah Dieckmann. Gross added to his day by winning the high jump behind a leap of 6'05 and Josh Meyer won the javelin throw with a toss of (152'06).

For the host Valley Heights who took home second place as a team, it was Elijah Smith highlighting the day claiming three gold’s. Smith took home the 110 meter hurdles title with a time of 15.91 and leapt his way to wins in the long jump (22'00.50) and triple jump (43'07.50). Derek Trimble also won an event for the Mustangs winning the pole vault with a vault of 12'00.

Frankfort who took home third place as a team claimed only one first place finish on the day as Adam Koch won the 3200 meter run posting a time of 10:26.81.

Hanover claimed three of first place finishes as both Evan Zabokrtsky and Preston Jueneman each won an event and the 4x400 meter relay won, too. Zabokrtsky took home gold in the 400 meter run (52.84), while Jueneman won the 800 meter run (2:10.02). The 4x400 meter relay team posted a time of 3:41.15 to grab the win as Will Bruna, Austin Diederich, Jueneman and Zabokrtsky made up the team.

Pawnee City finished the day fifth as a team but had two individual claim first place showings as Voy Pearson won the 300 meter hurdles (44.68) and Scott Brocher won both the shot put (53'08) and discus (146'05.5).

Axtell and Blue Valley-Randolph were the only two other schools that say a first place performance in the boy’s competition on the day. For Axtell it was the 4x800 meter relay team of Christian Buessing, Tracy Schmitz, Colton Buessing, Zachary Heinen grabbing the win with a time of 9:00.68. For Blue Valley, Chase Carey won the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:04.65.
