Vermillion Boys Golf Team Claims Onaga Invite Title

Multiple Twin Valley League teams along with Rossville started the week off competing against each other on the golf course in the Onaga Invitational back on Monday.

The team of Centralia and Frankfort, the Vermillion school district notched the top round of the day by 32 strokes, scoring a 369 team score to take home first place. Onaga followed in second with a 401, while Washington County finished third with a team score of 430. Rossville, B&B and Valley Heights rounded out the rest of the team scores finishing fourth, fifth and sixth with team scores of 433, 442 and 461, respectively.

Vermillion was led on the day by four top 10 performances to combine for their 4-Man team score of 369. Danny Mueting paced Vermillion with an 85 placing second, while Ryan Vernon finished fourth with a 91 on the day, Brett Kenworthy notched a sixth place finish with a 92 and Brett Burdiek tallied a tenth place finish with a round of 101. Chase Boyce and Jason Gore also took to the course on Monday for Vermillion each scoring a 108 on the day.

The host team Onaga took home second place behind a first place individual finish on the day by Lucas Helget with an 85 on the day. Jace Fisher also grabbed a top 10 finish for the Buffaloes placing seventh with a 96 on the day, while James Johnson and Ben Kufahl rounded out the team score for Onaga with rounds of 108 and 112.

Washington County Tigers took home third place as a team and were led by Tyson Hynek who placed fifth individually on the day with a 91. Evan Oullette, Taylor Metz and Matt Small finished out the Tigers 4-Man team score with rounds of 104, 105 and 130.

The other three area schools competing on the day in B&B, Valley Heights and Linn all finished the day with one top 10 finisher at the Onaga Invitational.

B&B Falcons were led by Cameron Haug who finished ninth on the day with a 100, while Blake Scism, Dylan Schmitz and Jacob Scmitz finished off the Falcons team score with rounds of 105, 117 and 120. Kyle Kramer also hit the course for the Falcons on Monday posting a round of 124.

For Valley Heights, Patrick Hale paced the team finishing third with an 85 on the day, tying for the best round of the day but taking third via tiebreaker. Alec Doner for the Mustangs finished just outside the top 10 with a round of 102 on the day, while Bennett Bargdill and Cole Maddox rounded out the Mustangs team with rounds of 134 and 140.

Linn also competed on the day with just two golfers in action as Chase McGatlin and Andrew Meyer represented the Bulldogs. McGatlin finished eighth on the day with a 98, while Meyer shot a 105.
