Royal Valley Boys & Girls Win Home Track Meet Against Area Teams

Threat of severe weather pushed the Royal Valley track Invitational to Friday, which turned out to be a beautiful day for track action, as the host Royal Valley Panthers claimed both the boys and girls team titles on the day.

Boy’s competition was dominated by the Panthers winning the team title by doubling the point total of the second place team, winning by 81 points. Fellow Big Seven school the Holton Wildcats took second place as a team and Maur Hill-Mount Academy rounded out the top three teams taking third. The rest of the team finishes were: 4th - Atchison, 5th - McLouth, 6th - Jeff West, 7th - Oskaloosa and 8th Silver Lake.

The girl's competition was much tight at the top as Royal Valley took first place as a team but just beat out Atchison by 10 points, as the Redmen placed second, while the Holton Wildcats placed third. The rest of the team finishes were: 4th - Maur Hill-Mount Academy, 5th - Oskaloosa, 6th - Jeff West, 7th - Silver Lake and 8th - McLouth.

Royal Valley Panthers took home 11 first place finishes on the day on their way both the girls and boys first place team finishes. In the boys competition the Panthers won five field events, all won by five different competitors. Chris Chapman, Austin Hodison and Patrick Broxterman all leapt their way to wins on the day in the long jump (20'00), triple jump (41'02) and high jump (6'02), respectively. While, Wemiko Lewis and Gary Stauffer both tossed their way to wins in the discus (141'08) and javelin (164'06). Panthers gold medal performances in the boys competition didn't stop in the field events, as Bryce Golightley and Blake Bowden both won events on the track winning the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, respectively with time of 4:48.74 and 11:17.37.

For the Panther girls it was Elizabeth Blevins and Kate Hanson leading the way both winning two events. Blevins leapt her way to wins in both the long jump (16'09) an triple jump (33'06.50), Hanson tossed her way to the gold in the discus (105'000 and javelin (103'08). Macy Putnam also claimed a first place finish winning the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 49.73.

The Atchison Redmen enjoyed a solid day of competition as they registered the most first place finishes on the day with 12, with nine coming in the girls competition. The lady Redmen relay teams made it a sweep on the day winning the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800. The team of Mady Shipley, Sierra Smith, Akiela Gill and Immogene Bratton took home gold in the 4x100 relay posting a time of 50.87. Mady Shipley also competed on the Redmen's 4x400 relay that won gold with a time of 4:28.92, partnering with Anna Shipley, Jaihlyn Bratton and Kate McCoole. The quartet of Lyndi Hanson, Hailey Macierowski, Lucy Newkirk and Tiffany Gillmore posted a time of 11:43.13 to win the 4x800 relay. Smith registered two more gold medal performances on the day as she won the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 12.46 and 25.92, while Hanson also won another event winning the 800 meter run (2:39.53) and Mady Shipley also won the pole vault (9'06). Sarah Jaloma added a multi-gold day for the Redmen as she won both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs with times of 5:39.17 and 12:29.67.

While in the boy’s competition Dane Anderson won the shot put (49'00), Jerel Rawls won the 400 meter dash (51.66) and the Atchison boys 4x100 relay team posted a time of 44.81 to win gold. Shane Johnston, Bennie Smith, Parker Welch and Wade Gassman made up the 4x100 team for the Redmen.

Holton Wildcats saw five first place finishes earned on the day at the Royal Valley Invitational with Brendan Hampton leading the charge as he won both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 15.28 and 42.23. Wildcats 4x400 relay team of Dakota and Dalton Colhouer, Will Wright and Indie Allen took first place with a time of 3:34.84, while Drake Ewing won the 100 meter dash (11.10). For the Holton girls Kyrstie Miller and Holly Karn each earned a first place finish coming in the shot put (36'08) and 100 meter hurdles (17.02).

Maur Hill grabbed three first place finishes on the day with Carly Taylor, Nathaniel Curry and the 4x800 meter relay team. Taylor leapt her way to the win in the high jump (4'10), while Curry raced to the win in the 800 meter run (2:06.65). Curry also was part of the Ravens gold medal 4x800 relay team partnering with Ian Davis, Eamon Mulholland and Blake Wilson to post a time of 8:59.39 to win.

The McLouth Bulldogs also came away with a pair of first place finishes on the day as Drew Cerny won the 200 meter dash (51.66) and Kayla Steffey won the 400 meter dash (1:02.98).
