B&B Girls & Frankfort Boys Claim Riley County Track Invitational Titles

Five Twin Valley League teams set out to compete in track and field action this past Friday at the Riley County Invitational and performed quite well out of 12 schools competing overall.

The B&B Falcon girls and the Frankfort Wildcat boys earned the top team performance on the day each taking first place at the Riley County Invitational.

B&B girls took first place with 122 points, winning the meet by 12.5 points topping the host Riley County who took second place. Valley Heights Mustangs from the TVL took home third place as a team, followed by another TVL school in Axtell who finished fourth. Frankfort and Blue Valley-Randolph also competed on the day taking ninth and tenth place as teams, respectively.

On the boy’s side of competition, Frankfort took home first place as a team posting 98 points, to win by nine points over Valley Heights who finished second place. The Axtell Eagles and B&B Falcons placed fifth and sixth, respectively as teams, while Blue Valley-Randolph placed ninth, as a team.

B&B Falcons took home six first place performances on the day with four coming in the girl’s competition on their way to first place as a team. Cassidy Hulsing, Sam Wessel and Laura Sudbeck all continued their strong seasons in their field events this year by winning the high jump (5'02), triple jump (33'10) and shot put (38'05.50), respectively. On the track the Falcons flew to the win in the 4x100 meter relay as they posted a time of 52.74 to notch the gold. In the boys competition both Jacob Koelzer and Cameron Haug grabbed first place finishes on the day winning the 100 meter dash (11.27) and javelin (152'03), respectively.

The Valley Heights Mustangs took home the most first place finishes of area teams with seven. Brandi Jo Roepke paced the Mustangs winning four events, registering first place in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes with times of 12.54, 26.05 and 59.22 and also winning the long jump (17'07). Elijah Smith grabbed a pair of golds on the day winning the 110 meter hurdles (15.17) and the triple jump (44'06), while Sidney Blackburn also took home a first place for the Mustangs winning the discus (114'03).

Frankfort on their way to the boys first place team finish notched four first place finishes in the events in the boys competition with Derek Kraushaar leading the way by winning the shot put (41'04) and discus (119'01). Lucas Adams added a win in the pole vault (13'00) for Frankfort, while the Wildcats 4x100 meter relay team posted a time of 45.85 to win gold.

Axtell Eagles registered a trio of gold medal performances at the Riley County Invitational all on the girl’s side of competition. Eagles 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay teams posted times of 4:26.15 and 10:48.56 to take the gold medal, while Kiersten Talbot won the 800 meter run behind a time of 2:31.37.

Blue Valley-Randolph also had a first place finish on the day as Georgia Hatesohl won the pole vault competition with a vault of 7'06.
