Holton Boys Golf Defend Big Seven League Golf Title

Lake Perry Country Club played host to the eight Big Seven League schools with boy's golf teams on Wednesday for the annual Big Seven golf tournament and the defending champion, Holton Wildcats came out on top again this year.

Holton posted a 4-Man team score of 308 to claim first place by 17 strokes on the day, with three of their top four individual scorers finishing in the top eight rounds on the day. Sabetha Bluejays finished in second place posting a score of 325 just four strokes better than third place team the Jeff West Tigers. Nemaha Valley Raiders took home a fifth place team finish posting a 334 team score, while Perry Lecompton tallied a 360 to finish fifth. Santa Fe Trail and Hiawatha rounded out the team performances finishing sixth and seventh, respectively with team scores of 400 and 407. Royal Valley did not have enough golfers to field a team in the competition.

On their way to first place as a team Holton registered three of the top eight scores of the day including first and second place. Ethan Holaday and Kenton Tegethoff both posted a 73 on the day to tie, but Holaday took home first place over his teammate via a playoff, winning on the second hole, giving Tegethoff second place. Braden Sides joined his teammates as an invididual medalists taking fourth place after posting a 77.

Tyler Ulrich of Sabetha led the Bluejays by taking home third place individually after posting a 75, while Jeff West Tiger, Aaron Brooks shot a 78 to take home fifth place overall. Nemaha Valley Raider, Zach Bradley placed sixth after posting an 80 and winning a playoff on the third hole, against Derek Halls of Sabetha who took seventh with an 80.

Jacob Morgison of Perry Lecompton grabbed the final individual medalist spot placing eighth after shooting an 81 and winning a playoff with three other guys. Jacob Morris of Perry Lecompton, Caleb Meyer of Nemaha Valley and Alex Miller of Jeff West all posted rounds of 81, also on the day.
