Linn Girls & Washington County Boys Claim TVL Track Titles

It was an ultra-competitive day on the track for the Twin Valley League teams as they all competed at Valley Heights for the annual League meet and it was the girls Linn Bulldog squad and the boys Washington County Tiger team winning League titles.

Linn girls cruised to the league title with 117 points winning by 33 points, with B&B taking second place and Centralia finishing third. The rest of team finishes were: 4th - Clifton-Clyde, 5th - Washington County, 6th - Valley Heights, 7th - Axtell, 8th - Hanover, 9th - Onaga, 10th - Doniphan West, 11th - Frankfort, 12th - Wetmore, 13th Troy and 14th - Blue Valley-Randolph.

The race for the League title on the boy’s side of competition was far closer as Washington County captured the League crown with 112 points, topping Centralia by just 10 points as the Panthers took second and the Hanover Wildcats finished third. The rest of the team finishes were: 4th - Frankfort and Linn, 6th - Valley Heights, 7th - Axtell, 8th - Clifton-Clyde, 9th - Onaga, 10th - B&B, 11th - Wetmore and Doniphan West, 13th Blue Valley-Randolph and 14th - Troy.

Washington County Tigers led the way with the most first place finishes on the day grabbing eight gold medals in competition. Five of the eight came in the boy’s competition helping the Tigers claim the League title. Dylan Hodgson paced the Tigers on the day winning three events claiming first in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs with times of 2:02.10, 4:29.07 and 10:20.11. Brett Herrs led the way in the field events as he tossed his way to wins in both the shot put (52'07) and discus (153'04). On the girls side of competition it was Erin Alexander highlighting the day winning both the shot put (42'00) and discus (113'11.50), while Heidi Stegman won the pole vault (9'08).

The Linn Bulldogs and Valley Heights Mustangs each took home seven first place finishes on the day.

Linn was led on the day by Kurt Van Der Merwe as he continued to post wins in the 100 and 200 meter dash competitions this season posting times of 11.15 and 22.58 to win gold. Chad Gross and Josh Meyer won league titles for Linn in field events winning the high jump (6'04) and javelin (166'05), respectively. On the girls side of competition Linn brought home wins in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays posting times of 51.43 and 4:20.08, respectively. The quartet of Brooke Diederich, Kesiah Thalmann, Acacia Thalmann and Kendra Bargman won the 4x100 relay, while Bargman and Kesiah Thalmann teamed up with Rachel Bott and Nicole Ohlde to win the 4x400. Ohlde also won the 1600 meter run behind a time of 5:49.25.

Valley Heights was led by the dynamic duo of Brandi Jo Roepke and Elijah Smith who continue to put together strong track seasons yet again. Roepke notched four league titles sprinting to wins in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes with times of 12.98, 26.61 and 1:00.08, while also leaping to the win in the long jump (17'07.75). Smith took home three gold medals winning League titles in the 110 meter hurdles (14.95), long jump (22'04.50) and triple jump (43'09.50).

Clifton-Clyde Eagles had four League champions on the day with Elizabeth Nobert leading the charge as she swept the hurdles competition winning both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 16.84 and 49.96. Kourtni Hubert and William Ohlde each also earned first place finishes winning the javelin (115'01) and 300 meter hurdles (39.62), respectively.

The Axtell Eagles registered three first place finishes as Kiersten Talbot won the 800 meter run (2:31.63) and both the boys and girls 4x800 meter relay teams won. The group of Susan Peschel, Courtney Heinen, Ashley Buessing and Talbot posted a time of 10:49.94 to win the 4x800, while Christian Buessing, Colton Buessing, Zach Heinen and Tracy Schmitz registered a time of 8:44.47 to win the boys 4x800 relay.

B&B Falcons and the Hanover Wildcats each had a pair of first place finishes at the TVL meet. Cassidy Hulsing and Sam Wessel won events for the Falcons notching first place finishes in the high jump (5'02) and triple jump (32'09.50). While, Hanover picked up first place performances from Preston Jueneman in the 400 meter dash (51.53) and Jueneman teamed up with Austin Diederich, Evan Zabokrtsky and Trey Loshe to win the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:34.55.

Frankfort, Centralia and Onaga all also had a first place performance on the day at the League meet. For the Wildcats, Lucas Adams took first place in the pole vault (13'00), while the Centralia Panther team of Wyatt VanDorn, JT Rosine, Brett Burdiek and Darrian Turner won the 4x100 meter relay (44.70) and Onaga Buffalo Maggie Revell won the 3200 meter run (13:11.23).

Next up the Twin Valley League teams turn their attention to Regional track action next Friday on May 23rd.
