Six Highland Scotties Compete at NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

As the spring sports seasons start to slowly come to a close some of the top Junior College track competitors took to the track one final time of for the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past week.

The Highland Scotties were represented by six individuals at the Championships, competing in multiple events on the day. Brian Martinez and Steven Hill notched the top finishes for the Scotties at the National Championships each finishing sixth place in their respective events. Martinez posted a time of 32:12.34 in the 10,000 meter run to claim sixth out of 20 competitors, while Hill posted a leap of 50'09.50 to take sixth in the triple jump out of 18 competitors.

Mandy Wilson and Krista Wilgers were the lone lady Scotties to compete in the Championships in Arizona. Wilson posted the 11th best time in the 800 meter run (2:20.63) in qualifying and just missed out on qualify for the finals by two spots. Wilgers placed thirteenth in the javelin with a toss of 112'09, as she competed in a field of 18 competitors.

Cody Patterson and Jacob Lott also competed for the Scotties at the National Championship track competition. Patterson notched a thirteenth place finish in the javelin throw out of 17 competitors posting a toss of 164'07. Lott registered a pair of seventeenth place finishes in the discus (139'11) and shot put (45'09.75).
