KS Class 2A Regional Track --- Eight Area Schools Have State Qualifiers

Area Class 2A schools traveled to Herington to compete at Regionals for a chance to qualify for the State Track meet and there were plenty of top flight performances, including the Jefferson County North Lady Chargers and Washington County Tiger boys each winning a Regional team title.

The Chargers racked up that top notch performances including multiple first place Regional titles. Jamie Navinskey secured three first place finishes on the day as she posted times of 12.86 and 27.03 to win the 100 and 200 meter dashes, while leaping to the long jump win, also (16'04). JCN 4x100 and 4x800 girls meter relay teams added gold's to the Chargers day, also with times of 53.01 and 11:27.91. Lauryn Baker, Hannah Twenhafel, Jacee Kramer and Navinskey teamed up to win the 4x100 relay, whlie Laramie Leakey, Amanada Wistuba, Cariss McAfee and Julie Schrick raced in the 4x800 relay. Leakey added a first place finish in the pole vault (9'00) and Heather Polson won the high jump (5'00), while Bryce Noll won the triple jump (39'05.75) and Luke Pyle took home gold in the javelin (177'08). Pyle also qualified for State in the discus with a third place finish.

Lady Chargers on their way to their Regional championship had seven first place finishes and seven other top four finishes. In the field events Grace Kramer and Randi Noll each qualified for State in the discus after taking third and fourth, respectively, while Elaina Tweed qualified in the high jump by placing fourth. On the track the 4x400 girls meter relay team also qualified for State like the other relay teams after finishing second in competition; the quartet of Baker, Lyndsey Vittitow, Polson and Twenhafel made up the team. Both Twenhafel and Baker also qualified in individual events after taking third in the 300 meter hurdles and second in the 400 meter dash, respectively. On the boys side Devon Wilson and Joel Abel each earn spots at State in the 3200 meter run and high jump, respectively after third place finishes.

For Washington County it was a trio of first place finishes at Regionals by Dylan Hodgson that paced the Tiger boys to their Regional title. Hodgson won the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs with times of 2:01.07, 4:46.76 and 10:46.67. Colin Cudney added a first place finish in the pole vault with a vault of 11'00, while Brett Herrs won the shot put (49'11) and discus (139'00). Three first place showings were put together by Lady Tigers as Erin Alexander won the shot put (39'06), Brooke Tuma won the discus (105'08) and Heidi Stegman won the pole vault (9'00). Alexander also qualified for State in the discus with a second place finish and Tuma, also qualified in the javelin with a second place finish.

The Tigers locked down many other top four performances on the day. In the field events on the girls side Courtney Bekemeyer finished third in the shot put, while Mandi Allerheiligen finished fourth in both the long jump and triple jump. Both Courtney Moore and Gabryelle Gilliam each qualified in the 100 meter hurdles after taking second and fourth, respectively, while Moore partnered with Jenna Hennerberg, Annie Otott and Allerheiligen to place third in the 4x100 meter relay. On the boys side of competition the Hodgson qualified for his fourth event at State as he partnered with Hunter Kier, Jefferson Simmons and Tristan Miller to take third in the 4x400 meter relay, while Miller and Simmons ran with Cole Thompson and Kyle Edgar to take second in the 4x100 meter relay. Miller also qualified in the long jump after placing fourth While Jon Harding, Justin Hoover, Levi Gauby and Logan Kier all each qualified for State also for the Tigers. Harding took third in the 110 meter hurdles, Hoover and Gauby finished second and third in the pole vault and Logan Kier placed third in the shot put and fourth in the discus.

Onaga had six athletes qualify for the 2A State competition. In girls competition the quartet of Rebekah Glessner, Jocelyn Marten, Maggie Revell and Alexis Vandonge finished second in the 4x800 meter relay to qualify for State. Revell, Glessner and Marten all also qualified for State in an individual competition, too. Revell placed fourth in the 3200 meter run, Marten took third in the 400 meter dash and Glessner finished third in the triple jump. For the boys, Garrett Ames qualified for State in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles as he won both competitions with times of 16.82 and 43.33. While, Michael Bliss also earned a spot at State after taking second in the javelin and David Koelzer finished third in the 400 meter dash.

Valley Falls, McLouth and Jackson Heights each had multiple athletes earn State spots in Class 2A with top four finishes at Regionals.

Emily Nottingham was the only girl individually to earn a spot at State for Valley Falls as she will compete in the 100 and 200 meter dashes after taking second in both at Regionals. Emily also qualified for State with her teammates Lauren Harington, Tamara Drinkard and Sierra Ann Neiberger in the 4x100 meter relay as the Dragons team finished second. Max Badgett led the Dragon boys on the day as he won the long jump behind a leap of 20'06, while Dallas Cliff took second in the discus and Chance Dalton Morrow notched a fourth place finish in the 800 meter run.

McLouth was led by a trio of first place performances at Regionals all by three different athletes. Drew Cerny took home first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.99, while taking second in the 200 meter dash. While Anna Moore and Kayla Steffey each earned a first place finish in the 100 meter hurdles (16.42) and 400 meter dash (1:03.22), respectively. Moore also finished second in the 300 meter hurdles and Steffey took fourth in the 100 meter dash, too. Cerny also partnered with Jack Arnett, Remington Courter and Juan Sergio Hernandez to finish fourth in the 4x100 meter relay and earn a spot at State. Arnett and Courter each also qualified for State for the Bulldogs placing fourth in the 300 meter hurdles and third in the long jump, respectively.

Jackson Heights Cobra, Cole Olberding brought home the Regional title in the high jump behind a leap of 6'00, while his teammates, Trevin Jacobsen, Seth Holliday and Kaitlynn Little all also qualified for State. Jacobsen placed fourth in the triple jump, while Holliday placed second in the 800 meter run and Little finished fourth in the 1600 meter run.

Immaculata also earned a pair of State qualifiers at Regionals as Jordan Sachse and Robert Portice qualified for State in the triple jump and 1600 meter run, respectively with second with fourth place finishes. While the lone Troy Trojan to qualify for State was Holly Whetstine who finished third place in the long jump.
