KS Class 1A Regional Track --- Area Schools Have State Qualifiers

It was a Twin Valley League heavy Regional hosted by TVL school, Valley Heights for 1A track Regional action and multiple TVL schools are sending multiple athletes to the State Track competition.

Centralia, Axtell, B&B, Valley Heights, Frankfort, Doniphan West, Hanover, Linn, Clifton-Clyde and Blue Valley Randolph all had athletes earn a spot at the 1A State Track competition in Wichita.

The Centralia Panthers had nine girls and six boys earn a spot at the State competition in at least one competition. On the girls side of competition Mayda Stallbaumer was the only Panther to qualify for multiple events as she finished third in the 800 meter run and fourth in the 3200 meter run, while teaming up with Kennedy Korpi, Blair Burdiek and Kaitlyn Becker to place fourth in the 4x800 meter relay and qualify for State, also. In the field events five Lady Panthers earned spots at State, as Katy Haufler took third in the pole vault, while Chelsea Huerter won the Regional title with a leap of 9'00, Liz Hasenkamp and Riley Hanzlik finished second and fourth in the javelin, respectively and Tara Bergman took second in the discus and fourth in the shot put.

For the Centralia boys Darrian Turner led the qualifiers has he qualified in four events; individually in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and long jump after taking third place in each event and also qualifying with the Panthers 4x100 meter relay team after they finished second. Turner partnered with Brett Burdiek, JT Rosine and Wyatt VanDorn to race in the 4x100 meter relay. Burdiek also earned spots at State in the 110 meter hurdles and the high jump after a third and second place finish, respectively. Sam Steinlage will also compete at State in multiple events as he finished second in the long jump and third in the triple jump and discus. While Joey Ferron and Cody Huerter also will make the trip to Wichita for Centralia each qualifying for state with a third place in the shot put and fourth place in the pole vault, respectively.

The Axtell Eagles will fly to State with multiple representatives after earning top four performances at Regionals. On the boys side of competition the quartet of Christian Buessing, Colton Buessing, Zach Heinen and Tracy Schmitz qualified for State in the 4x800 meter relay by finishing second. Schmitz also took fourth in the 3200 meter run, while Heinen placed fourth in the 1600 meter run. The Lady Eagles 4x800 meter relay team of Susan Peschal, Courtney Heinen, Ashley Buessing and Kiertsen Talbot posted a time of 10:33.02 to win the Regional title. While, Talbot also finished second in the 800 meter run to qualify for State and Bradie Schmitz took third in the 400 meter dash.

B&B Falcons in their final year will send eight athletes to the State Track meet after top performances at Regionals. Laura Sudbeck led the way on the day claiming the shot put title behind a toss of 38'04.25, while Ashley Kramer and Cassidy Hulsing each qualified for State with a third place in the triple jump and second in the high jump, respectively. Sam Wessel also earned a spot at State finishing second in the triple jump and teamed up with Kramer, Kelsey Schmitz and Jenna Macke to finish fourth in the 4x400 meter relay to earn a spot at State. Jacob Koelzer and Cameron Haug each qualified for State in the boy’s competition after finishing fourth in the 100 meter dash and second in the javelin, respectively.

Seven Regional titles were claimed by Valley Heights Mustangs at their home track for Regionals with every State qualifier qualifying in multiple events for Valley Heights. Brandi Jo Roepke earned a spot at State in four events after winning the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.60 and also winning the long jump with a leap of 16'10.50, while taking second in the 200 and 400 meter dashes. Shelby Vermetten also grabbed a first place finish for the Mustangs winning the discus title with a toss of 118'01, while also finishing third in the shot put. Elijah Smith and Derek Trimble notched the other first place finishes on the day for the Mustangs. Smith won the 110 meter hurdles (14.30), along with the long jump (21'10.50) and triple jump (43'06), while also placing fourth in the 200 meter dash. Trimble won the pole vault title with a vault of 13'00 and qualified for State in the triple jump, too with a fourth place finish. Sidney Blackburn also earned a pair of spots at State in the shot put and discus competition after second and third place finishes.

Frankfort Wildcats are sending two relay teams to State and two individuals in individual competitions, also. Lucas Adams finished second place in the pole vault to earn a spot at State, while also racing with Riley Ahlvers, Alex Roeder and Jacob Studer in the 4x400 meter relay taking third to qualify for State. Studer and Roeder each ran with Keith Huddleston and Adam Koch on the 4x800 meter relay team, also and earned a State bid after third place finish. Koch will also compete in the1600 and 3200 meter runs after finishing second and third.

Doniphan West will have two representatives at State as McKenzie Blevins will compete in the long jump after finishing third at Regionals and Payton Leach will compete in the high jump after taking fourth at Regionals.

For the Hanover Wildcats multiple athletes will compete one last time this track season as they qualified for State. Wildcats 4x100 meter relay team of Matthew White, Evan Zabokrtsky, Will Bruna and Preston Jueneman posted a time of 43.80 to win the Regional title, while Ethan Fritschi also won an event tossing his way to the shot put title (49'10.50). Both Zabokrtsky and Preston Jueneman each qualified for State in other events and both were on the 4x400 meter relay team that took second with Austin Diederich and Trey Loshe. Evan also finished second in the 200 and third in the 400 meter dash, while Preston took second in the 400 meter dash. Loshe, also ran on the Wildcats 4x800 meter relay team that placed fourth as he ran with Adam Zarybnicky, Paden Pralle, Michael Jueneman. Devin Jueneman also qualified for State for the Wildcat boys after placing second in the triple jump. On the girl’s side of competition the group of Ashton Jueneman, Ramona Weber, Morganne Zabokrtsky and Jenna Jueneman took second in the 4x800 meter relay, while Katelyn Jueneman took fourth in the long jump.

Linn Bulldogs are sending seven girls and seven boys to the State competition in Wichita after they notched top four finishes at Regionals. Kurt Van der Merwe paces the Bulldogs on the boy’s side as he won the Regional titles in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 10.90 and 22.60, while teaming up with Chad Diederich, Chad Gross and Micah Dieckmann to place fourth in the 4x100 meter relay and qualify for State. Gross also qualified in for State in the high jump, by winning the high jump with a leap of 6'06, while Brett Peters posted a pair of second place finishes in shot put and discus, Josh Meyer notched fourth place finishes in discus and javelin and Alex Wohler placed fourth in the shot put. For the Lady Bulldogs the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams each finished second place, as Brooke Diederich, Acacia Thalmann, Kesiah Thalmann and Kendra Bargman raced on the 4x100 team and Rachel Bott, Nicole Ohlde, Kesiah Thalmann and Bargman ran on the 4x400 team. Bargman also earned two more spots at State after placing third in the 200 meter dash and fourth in the 100 meter dash, while Ohlde placed fourth in the 1600 meter run and Acacia Thalmann won the Regional title in the high jump with a leap fo 5'02. Brooke Diederich and Kaylie Rahe each also qualified for State for Linn in the long jump and 300 meter hurdles after a second and third place finish.

The Clifton-Clyde Eagles were led on the day by a Regional title win by Kourtni Hubert who won the javelin with a toss of 117'11, while William Ohlde won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 39.10 and took second in the 110 meter hurdles. Brendon Asch, Elizabeth Nobert and the Lady Eagles 4x100 meter relay all also qualified for State. Ashc finished third in the 300 meter hurdles, while Nobert took second in the 300 meter hurdles and fourth in the 100 meter hurdles and the quartet of Nobert, Hubert, Talor Seifert and Arika Long took fourth in the 4x100.

Rams of Blue Valley-Randolph earned one Regional title on the day as Marshall Carey, Kyle Clifton, Chase Carey and Zach Rootring raced to to a time of 8:29.40 to claim the 4x800 meter relay title. Rootring also qualified for State in the 800 meter run by taking fourth place.

The State Track meet will commence on Friday May 30th in Wichita at Cessna Stadium.
