Centralia Boys Golf Team Wins 1A State Title, While Other Area Golfers Compete at State

The trophy case continues to grow at Centralia high school as the boy's golf team added the third State Championship trophy to the schools trophy case from this year. Panthers claimed the Class 1A boys golf State title at Southwind Country Club in Garden City on Tuesday.

The Panthers put together the best four-man score notching a 372 to win the State title by seven strokes, competing against nine other teams. Centralia was led on the day by the best individual round in the State competition as Ryan Vernon won the individual State title with a 73, winning by three strokes. Danny Mueting, Brett Burdiek and Jason Gore rounded out the Panthers four-man score with rounds of 97, 100 and 102, respectively to finish 22nd, 27th and 32nd on the day. While, Chase Boyce and Kobe Rumbo also competed for Centralia registering rounds of 112 and 132, respectively.

Fellow Twin Valley League teams in the B&B Falcons and Valley Heights Mustangs also field teams at the 1A State competition finishing seventh and eighth with team scores of 412 and 428 in the 10 team field.

B&B was led by a 17th place performance individually on the day by Cameron Haug who shot a 93, while Blake Scism and Dylan Schmitz both notched top 40 finishes. Scism scored a round of 103 to take 35th and Schmitz finished 39th with a 104. Trevor Holthaus, Corey Heiman and Kyle Kramer also competed for the Falcons posting rounds of 112, 120 and 131, respectively.

The Mustangs were led on the day by a 15th place finish by Payton Manley as he notched a 93 on the day. Alec Doner had the second best day for Valley Heights finishing 34th with a 103, while Patrick Hale finished 47th with a 106. Blake Woodyard, Quentin Blaske and Cole Maddox each registered rounds of 126, 151 and 156 for the Mustangs at State.

Linn and Frankfort each had golfers compete individually at Southwind Country Club in the 1A State tournament. Andrew Meyer and Chase McGatlin notched rounds of 104 and 106 finishing 37th and 45th, respectively for Linn, while Frankfort Wildcat, Brett Kenworthy shot a 107 to finish 52nd.
