Sabetha Boys Golf Takes Third at 3A State Golf; While Five Other Area Golfers Compete

The Sabetha Bluejays went into the Class 3A boy's golf State tournament in Cheney at Cherry Oaks golf course looking to defend their State title from last year and finished Tuesday with the best area performance notching third place as a team.

Bluejays four-man team put together a score of 323, finishing only six strokes behind second place on the day while the best team score came by Wichita Collegiate with a 302. Sabetha was led at State by a ninth place individual performance by Kevan Herbster who posted a 77 on the day. Tyler Ulrich grabbed a 14th place after a round of 80, while Derek Halls tallied a 24th place with an 83 and Connor Epple followed him in 25th place with an 83, too. Darrin Wenger and Reese Lierz both also competed for the Bluejays scoring rounds of 88 and 104, respectively.

Nemaha Valley, ACCHS and Maur Hill-Mount Academy each had individuals compete at the 3A State tournament in Cheney.

For the Raiders, Zach Bradley posted the best round of the day of the three Nemaha Valley golfers to qualify for State. Bradley scored an 83 just finishing outside the top 25, while Caleb Meyer and Blake Mohney also took to the course scoring rounds of 88 and 94, respectively.

Maur Hill golfer, Christian Wessel posted a round of 86, while ACCHS Tiger, Patrick Sullivan scored a 95 in competition on the day.

The top individual score in the 3A State competition came at the hands of Wichita Collegiate golfer, Ian Trebilcock who posted a 71.
