Twelve Area 8-Man Football Stars & Two Coaches Set to Participate in All-Stars This Weekend

Every year Trojan field in Beliot, Kansas hosts the annual 8-man All-Star games and Northeast Kansas is usually represented quite well and this year is no different with 12 players and two coaches from the area set to participate in the Division I and II games. The Division I game will get the festivities underway this Saturday June 7th kicking off at 10:00am while the Division II game will follow at 1:30pm.

In the Division II game Twin Valley League teams Baileyville-B&B, Hanover, Axtell, Frankfort and Blue Valley-Randolph will all be represented in the competition all on the East team.

For the B&B Falcons it will be one last time for Dustin Rottinghaus, Blake Deters and Cameron Haug to represent the Falcon on the football field and Coach Justin Coup to do the same on the sideline. B&B high school will close at the end of this academic year and consolidate with Nemaha Valley, while it was the final season for B&B football it was one of the best season the Falcons flew out on top. Falcons took home the state championship for the second straight year finishing the season 12-1 by beating Wallace County in the 8-Man DII state championship.

Rottinghaus put together a great season to lead the Falcons at quarterback and linebacker/safety, as he tossed the ball for 2,666 yards with 46 TD's and only six interceptions, while rushing the ball for 381 yards and 14 TD's. On defense Dustin registered 53 tackles, a sack, three interceptions, seven pass defenses, a fumble recovery and blocked field goal.

His favorite two targets in Cameron Haug and Blake Deters will join him at the All-Star game after great senior years. Haug caught 52 passes for 997 yards and 14 TD's, while recording 71 tackles, a sack and three fumble recoveries on defense. For Deters he lead the team in receiving with 1,117 yards on 62 catches with 23 TD's, while posting 72 tackles on defense, grabbing five interceptions and notching a forced fumble and fumble recovery.

B&B Falcon coach, Justin Coup will get to coach three of his players one final time serving as an assistant coach to the Division II East team. Coup in his three years at B&B posted a record of 37-2 with two state championships and a runner-up showing in his first year at the helm of the Falcons. He will take over the Solomon football program next year with the closure of B&B high school.

A team that has fell victim to B&B the last two years in the sub-state playoff game in the Hanover Wildcats will have a pair of guys representing them at the All-Star game after a 8-3 season, that saw them in the final four teams agian. Kent Bruna and Brandon Jueneman both played key parts to the Wildcats success on the field this past year. Bruna in only nine games ran for 487 yards on 61 carries and scored nine TD's, while posting 43 tackles and two interceptions. Jueneman anchored the offensive line helping the Wildcats run for 2,296 yards as a team and on defense had 58 tackles, a sack, interception and forced fumble.

The Axtell Eagles under a new head coach enjoyed a 6-3 season, which saw them finish the season winning their final three games. Seniors, Derek Porting and Payton Heinen both were big parts of the Eagles success and each earned a spot on the All-Star team. Porting anchored the Axtell defense at linebacker and was key at tailback, too during the season posting 55 tackles, 3.5 sacks, an interception and fumble recovery on defense and 487 rushing yards on offense with seven TD's. Heinen at tight end caught 23 passes for 216 yards and a pair of TD's, while posting 28 tackles, 1.5 sacks, three interceptions, a fumble recovery and three blocked punts on defense.

While the Frankfort Wildcats took a step back in the win column this year finishing just 2-6, senior, Lucas Adams proved to be one of the most dangerous players in the TVL yet again. Adams ran for 704 yards on 88 carries with eight TD's on the season, while on defense posting 57 tackles, a sack, two interceptions and averaging 30.3 yards per punt on the season. Adams with his solid high school career and senior year earned a spot in the 8-Man All-Star game.

Blue Valley-Randolph will be represented by their Head Coach, Matt Schreiber who will serve as an assistant coach for the Division II East team. The Rams finished 5-4 this past year, losing their final four games of the season after opening the year 5-0.

On the Division I side a pair of Clifton-Clyde Eagles and the Linn Bulldogs will represent the TVL on the East roster.

Caleb Gelino and Austin Biggerstaff will represent the Eagles in the game after Clifton-Clyde enjoyed a great year on the field finishing 9-4 and falling in the 8-Man DI sub-state game to the eventual champs, Osborne. Gelino on the season anchored a high scoring offense posting over 1,500 yards rushing with 20-plus rushing TD's and passed for over 600 yards, while registering over 130 tackles on defense. Biggerstaff enjoyed a strong season, also rushing for over 1,000 yards and recording 50-plus tackles on defense.

Linn will be represented by Brett Peters and John Bott who both helped Linn finish last year with a 4-5 record. Peters was a playmaker that was all over the field for Linn during the season rushing for 1,346 yards and 19 TD’s, while passing for 680 yards and 9 TD’s with a 64.5% completion percentage. On defense Peters posted 90 tackles, a sack, three interceptions and a fumble recovery. Bott on the defense anchored the line for the Bulldogs and on defense notched 93 tackles and added a fumble recovery, interception and three fumble recoveries to this stat line.

This year the Northeast Kansas area and the Twin Valley League will be represented quite well at the 8-Man All-Star games set for this Saturday June 7th at Trojan Field in Beloit.
