Sunday July 6th

Doniphan County Sweeps Frankfort in Pair of League Matchups

The pitching controlled most of both contests on Sunday in Wathena between Doniphan County and Frankfort as Doniphan County earned the doubleheader sweep with a 4-3 win in nine innings in game one and won game two 5-2.

Game one need extra innings to decide the contest as Doniphan County won in walk-off fashion, scoring on a wild pitch as Nathan Gaarder led the bottom of the ninth off with a double and was moved over to third on a Tucker Morris groundout and then scored the winning run on a Frankfort wild pitch. Gaarder got the start on the mound in the contest going eight innings giving up three-runs on the four hits and recording four strikeouts. Phoenix Keller pitched a one-two-three top of the ninth for Doniphan County. Frankfort had Derek Trimble start the contest in game one.

Alex Schmille's pitching was the story of game two for Doniphan County as he took a no-hitter into the seventh inning but Frankfort would break it up, getting a pair of runs but it wasn't enough as Doniphan Count notched the 5-2 win.

Sam Steinlage broke up Schmille's no-hit bid with an infield hit in the seventh and then Frankfort followed that up with a hit batter, another hit and two Doniphan County errors leading to a pair of runs. The offense of Doniphan County scored their runs earlier in the game as was led by Keller who had two hits and an RBI, while Tucker Morris had a hit and an RBI.

With the wins Doniphan County improved to 13-7 on the season and 8-2 in League action, while Frankfort fell to 7-11 on the season and 4-7 in the League with the pair of losses.

Sabetha Takes Two on the Road Against Hiawatha

It was a tale of two different games at Noble Park in Hiawatha on Sunday but Sabetha ultimately was the victor in both contests winning game one 9-0 and game two 17-16.

Scoring was limited in game one until Sabetha broke through in the fifth inning and scored a pair of runs and then added seven more in the top of the sixth and grabbed the 9-0 win in six innings over Hiawatha. Hiawatha only mustered a pair of hits in the contest but both were extra base hits as Parker Hasenkamp and Dakota Bayles each had a double.

Game two featured plenty of base runners and runs as Hiawatha's offense busted out for 11-run's early but Sabetha battled back to take the 17-16 win.

Sabetha led 3-0 after the top of the first, but Hiawatha answered in a big way in the bottom of the first using four hits, five walks and hit batter and two Sabetha errors to score 11-runs. Hiawatha stretched that lead after the second with three more runs making it 14-3, but Sabetha chipped away with a three-run third, six-run fourth and five-run sixth to complete the comeback, as Hiawatha only added a pair of runs during that time.

Gaven Schumann paced the Sabetha Raptors offense going 3-5 with two RBI's and three runs scored, while Bauman finished 2-3 with a homerun, double, three runs scored, an RBI and two walks. Keegan Schumann added a 2-4 game with two RBI's with a run scored and triple.
