Riverside Cyclones Win Home Volleyball Invitational
By Mike Smith

In a weekend full of high school sports the Riverside Cyclones volleyball team played host to seven other schools for a volleyball tournament. Only one of the other seven teams outside of host Riverside was from the Kanzaland area to particapate in the tourney, that being the Troy Trojans.

It was a tournament that featured only five of the 16 matches played going to three sets but the winner of the tourney didn't need any three set matches to go a perfect 5-0 on the day, as the host school Riverside won their home Invitational. Riverside swept through their pool with relative ease, with a close battle against the South Holt spikers being the main challenge (25-21, 25-23).

After perfect pool play action Riverside meet up with Mound City who finished second in the other pool in one semifinal, while Bishop Seabury and St. Joseph Christian meet in the other semifinal (Seabury won the other pool). Cyclones cruised to another straight win 25-15, 25-10 over Mound City in the semifinal; Bishop Seabury needed three sets to defeat St. Joseph Christian (25-16, 23-25,25-17).

Both teams came into the championship game undefeated but it would be the dominating performance of the Cyclones all day that prevailed in the end defeating Bishop Seabury in straight sets 25-19, 25-14.

The only other Kanzaland area team, Troy went 0-3 on the day falling in pool play action.
