On Saturday the Jeff West Tigers hosted five other teams for a round-robin volleyball tournament, welcoming three other area schools in Valley Falls, Oskaloosa and Royal Valley, along with Silver Lake and Santa Fe Trail to town.

While, it was Silver Lake taking home the Jeff West Invite title by putting together a 5-0 day, the host Jeff West Tigers took the silver for the best area team performance, going 4-1 on the day. Fellow Big Seven school, Royal Valley finished 3-2 in action placing third, while Santa Fe Trail notched a 2-3 record for fourth, Valley Falls went 1-4 in the day for fifth and Oskaloosa finished 0-5 in competition finishing sixth.

Silver Lake dominated the competition on the day with their closest match coming against the host Jeff West as Silver Lake won in straight sets 25-19, 25-23; their other tightest competition on the day was against Valley Falls who they beat 25-18, 25-22. The Eagles topped Oskaloosa 25-9, 25-9, while beating Santa Fe Trail 25-15, 25-11 and Royal Valley 25-16, 25-13.

For Jeff West, their loss came to Silver Lake but the Tigers won all four of their other matches all in straight sets. The Tigers finished off Oskaloosa 25-5, 25-20, beat Royal Valley 25-9, 25-20, topped Santa Fe Trail 25-23, 25-22 and beat Valley Falls in a tight contest 25-22, 27-25.

Royal Valley picked up their three wins against Oskaloosa (25-10, 25-7), Valley Falls (26-24, 25-23) and Santa Fe Trail (22-25, 25-18, 15-25). The match against Santa Fe Trail for the Panthers was one of only two matches that went three sets on the day, as the other involved Santa Fe Trail also as they won 20-25, 25-12, 25-23 over Valley Falls for one of their two wins on the day. The other Chargers win came against Oskaloosa in straight sets 25-14, 25-11.

Valley Falls lone win came versus fellow Northeast Kansas League team in Oskaloosa as the Dragons won in straight sets 25-15, 25-8 over the Bears.

Area teams now turn their attention back to league action in the upcoming week after the weekend of tournament play at the Jeff West Invite.
