Ten Schools in Latest Kansas Cross Country Coaches Association Rankings

With the first cross country meet in the books for many teams across the State, the latest rankings have been released by the Kansas Cross Country Coaches Association and 10 area teams find themselves ranked with a few others receiving votes, in the Top Seven rankings.

All the area teams that are ranked all come from the Big Seven League and Twin Valley League in the latest rankings, while the Northeast Kansas League, along both other Leagues have teams in the others category.

In Class 3A, three area teams are in the latest rankings with the Hiawatha Red Hawks pacing the way checking in at number two for both the boys and girls squads after opening the season by placing second each as teams at the Jeff West Invitational. The ACCHS Tigers and Sabetha Bluejays girls cross country squads join Hiawatha in the rankings as ACCHS ranks fourth and Sabetha seventh in the latest poll. Tigers and Bluejays finished fourth and sixth as teams in their first meet of the year at the Jeff West Invite with 12 schools competing. The Sabetha boy’s team, while not in the polls this week are in the others to watch category in Class 3A.

Latest Class 2A, cross country polls are highlighted for the area by the Washington County Tigers as both the girls and boy’s teams are ranked for the Tigers; ranked seventh and fifth, respectively. Tigers have yet to compete this season as they will open the year at their home meet on Thursday, September 11th. Two NEKL boys teams in Jefferson County North and Jackson Heights are both in the others category of the latest poll; both teams open the cross country season on Thursday, September 11th at the Holton Invitational.

Class 1A, houses four Twin Valley League teams ranked in the latest cross country polls with three coming on the boy’s side of competition. Frankfort, Axtell and Wetmore boy’s teams are all ranked checking in at number #4 and a tie for #6, respectively. The Axtell girls are also in the rankings coming in tied for #7 in the latest rankings. Both Frankfort and Axtell will open the cross country season at the Washington County Invitational on Thursday, while Wetmore opened the year by taking eighth as a team at the Jeff West Invite last week.

Cross country action gears up for area teams again on Thursday with multiple meets in the area.
