Nine Area Teams in Latest Kansas Volleyball Association Rankings

The volleyball season is underway for teams across the state of Kansas and all the area teams have at least two games under their belt after Tuesday's games and the latest Kansas Volleyball Association rankings have been released featuring nine teams after week on action.

All eight area teams that were preseason ranked remain in the polls with an additional area team breaking into the Top 10 in their class.

Class 4A-Division II houses three ranked teams by the KVA in the latest rankings and all three hail from the Big Seven League. The Holton Wildcats and Jeff West Tigers both remained in the rankings staying put at number three and four, respectively. The Wildcats are off to a 5-1 start this season, after their split with ACCHS last night they are 3-1 in League play. For the Tigers they have notched an 8-1 record thus far this year and are 4-0 in Big Seven action, while also placing second at their home volleyball invitational. The Royal Valley Panthers join the Wildcats and Tigers in the polls this week coming in at number 10. The Panthers are off to a 5-4 start this year and 2-2 in the League after a split with Nemaha Central on Tuesday.

In Class 3A, the Nemaha Central Thunder remained ranked and moved up one spot to number six this week despite not playing a game before the rankings were put together. The Thunder got their season underway on Tuesday night with a split with Royal Valley in League action, starting the year 1-1.

The Washington County Tigers check in as one of the top teams in Class 2A as they move up one spot to number two in the latest rankings. The Tigers opened the season winning their first three Twin Valley League matchups and competed in more on Tuesday (missing scores from Clifton-Clyde Triangular). The Jefferson County North Chargers started the year preseason ranked number two in Class 2A, but tumbled down to number 10 in the rankings after opening the year 0-2, falling in a pair fo Northeast Kansas League matchups. The Chargers responded on Tuesday to move to 2-2 on the year beating Horton and Pleasant Ridge.

Class 1A-Division I continues to house three area teams in the Top 10 all from the TVL. The Centralia Panthers opened the season by winning the Wabaunsee Invitational and are off to a 4-0 start in League play, while 8-1 on the season. Despite that success the Panthers were bumped from their preseason number one spot and are ranked second this week. Both, Valley Heights and Linn remained ranked also as the Mustangs are off to a 4-0 start and remained at number six and Linn fell two spots to number nine after a 3-2 start to the season with their losses to a pair of ranked teams in Valley Heights & Washington County.

The volleyball action continues for a few area teams on Thursday night, while many other gear up for tournament action on Saturday, September 13th.
