Sabetha Bluejays Girl's Tennis Team Wins the Seaman Invitational

The Sabetha Bluejays bounced back from their performance at the Hayden Invitational in a big way as they traveled to Topeka this time to compete in the Seaman Invitational and claimed first place as a team in the competition. It's the second first place showing as a team for the Bluejays this season.

Three first place performances in competition, along with a third place showing earned the Bluejays 21 points enough to easily finish in first in a competition that featured five other teams. Sabetha won by nine points a team on the day.

Singles competition lead the way for Sabetha as both Lexi Wenger and Courtney Plattner notched first place performances by going both going 3-0 on the day. Wenger, competing in singles #1 competition got things going in pool play going 2-0 in action by beating players from Seaman and Wabaunsee, winning both matches by a 7-1 score, earning a spot in the championship match and took down Shawnee Heights competitor in convincing fashion winning 7-0. For Plattner she won both her pool play matches over a Wabaunsee and Seaman competitor, winning 7-2, 7-3, respectively to make the championship match in singles #2 competition. In the championship match Plattner faced off against other competitor from Seaman and notched the 7-2 win to claim first place.

In doubles it was the tandem of Jena Winkler and Nicole Brey that claimed another first place for the Bluejays as they went 3-0 in competition. Winkler and Brey won 7-2 over Seaman in pool play and then topped Wabaunsee 7-0, to advance to the championship match in doubles #2 competition. In the championship competition Jena and Nicole worked past a team from Shawnee Heights winning 7-0. In doubles competition #1 the team of Jordyn Wells and Alexa Menold notched a third place showing going 2-1 on the day. In pool play action Wells and Menold beat the team from Wabaunsee 7-1, but lost to Seaman 7-5, sending them into the third place match where they finished their day with a win beating a Shawnee Heights team 7-2 to place third.

The Bluejays do waste any time to get back on the courts again as they take their first place finish momentum into competition Thursday night at home, hosting a quad competition and then turn around and travel to Hiawatha on Saturday, to compete in the Hiawatha Invitational.

2014 Seaman Girls Tennis Invite Team Results:

  1. Sabetha: 21 pts.
  2. Seaman Blue: 12 pts.
  3. Seaman Red: 11 pts.
  4. Shawnee Heights: 10 pts.
  5. (tie) Highland Park and Wabaunsee: 5 pts.
