Centralia Panthers Win Hiawatha Volleyball Invitational

It was the Centralia Panthers on Saturday working past the competition at the Hiawatha volleyball Invitational to continue their strong season and win their second tournament title of the year. Nine area teams along with one other team competed against each other at the tournament.

The day got started with pool play action on the court and in the Blue pool, Centralia went 4-0, beating Lafayette (25-14, 25-14), Troy (25-10, 25-3), Horton (25-10, 25-10) and Jefferson County North (25-9, 25-21) all in straight sets to win the pool. JCN finished second in the pool going 3-1 with a straight set win over Troy (25-14, 25-10) and three set wins over Lafayette (25-20, 20-25, 25-16) and Horton (25-13, 20-25, 25-10). Lafayette notched wins over Horton (25-18, 25-19) and Troy (25-21, 25-15) in pool play, while Horton beat Troy in three sets (20-25, 25-15, 27-25). Horton finished the day 1-3 in pool play and Troy went 0-4.

In the Red pool it was Immaculata leading the way with a 4-0 performance in pool play as the Raiders won all four matches in straight sets beating Doniphan west (25-21, 25-21), Hiawatha (25-13, 25-23), Atchison 25-17, 25-19) and Riverside (25-14, 25-20). Atchison took second in the pool going 3-1 in pool play action with a straight win over Doniphan West (25-17, 25-21) and three set wins over Hiawatha (23-25, 25-18, 25-14) and Riverside (24-26, 25-6, 25-9). The host Hiawatha picked up a pair of wins in pool play action beating Doniphan West (25-17, 25-21) and Riverside (19-25, 25-22, 25-14), while Doniphan West picked up a win over Riverside (25-16, 25-16). Hiawatha finished the day 2-2, while Doniphan West was 1-3 and Riverside 0-4.

In the Semifinals it was the top teams in each pool gain wins both winning their matches in straight sets. Centralia Panthers downed Atchison in straight sets 25-18, 25-15, while Immaculata won in straight sets over JCN 25-10, 25-11.

Atchison and JCN squared off for third place as the Redman took home third place on the day with the straight set win 25-18, 26-24. Atchison finished the day 4-2, while JCN posted a record of 3-3 in action. While, Centralia capped off their day by yet again winning in straight sets beating Immaculata in the Championship, 25-11 and 25-17. Immaculata finished the day second with a 5-1 record, while Centralia was perfect on the day with a 6-0 record and won all their matches in straight sets.
