Several Former NEKS Area High School Athletes Earn All-Conference Honors in KCAC & KJCCC for Football & Volleyball

With the seasons coming to an end at the lower level colleges several area athletes that have continued their athletic careers in college continue to perform well in athletics earning All-Conference honors in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Association (KCAC) and the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) in the sports of football and volleyball.

Former Onaga Buffalo, Mitchell Kufahl put together a strong season on the football field at tight end for Kansas Wesleyan and earned first team offense in the KCAC at the position. The college sophomore, caught 44 passes for 739 yards with three touchdowns this year, finishing with the fourth most receiving yards and receiving yards per game in the KCAC. Kufahl also ranked tied for sixth in receptions on the year, as Kansas Wesleyan finished the season 2-7.

Former Pleasant Ridge Ram, Will Ryan also earned first Team KCAC honors on offense at runningback as the senior helped the University of St. Mary's finish 4-5 on the year. Ryan carried the ball 188 times for 1,010 yards with three touchdowns, posting a 5.4 yards per carry average, while catching 19 passes for 181 yards. The senior ranked ninth in the KCAC in total offense per game and ranked second in the League in both rush yards per game and rush yards gained.

The volleyball scene in the KCAC was highlighted tremendously by former Kanzaland area high school athletes as eight girl's first team, second team or honorable mention KCAC All-Conference volleyball honors.

The former Nemaha Valley Raider, McKayla Brezina transferred to Bethel College from Highland and earned first team All-Conference in her first season with Bethel earning the honors at middle blocker. Brezina led the team in blocks with 116 on the season, while ranking second on the team in kills with 266 (2.16 kills per game), adding 40 digs and a .247 hitting percentage to her season. Her 116 blocks ranked sixth in the KCAC, while her .247 hitting percentage ranked sixth, also. Bethel finished the season 17-17 on the year.

Fellow former Big Seven Leaguer to Brezina in Christa Hill of Holton also earned first team KCAC All-Conference after putting together a great season at setter for Ottawa University, who finished the year 24-12. The former Holton Wildcat notched 1,289 assists, good for 10.3 assists per game, which ranked first in the KCAC, while her 1,289 assists ranked second in the League. Hill added 114 kills, 40 aces (10th most in League), 36 blocks and 268 digs.

Another former Holton Wildcat and college teammate of Hill, in Keri Tanking earned second team KCAC All-Conference at the outside hitter spot. Tanking finished the season with 358 kills, second on the team and ranked second on the team in digs, also registering 430, while adding 47 blocks and 41 aces. The sophomore ranked seventh in kills per game, sixth in kills and tied for eighth in aces in the KCAC.

Former Hiawatha Red Hawk, Taylor Klover also earned second team KCAC All-Conference honors helping Kansas Wesleyan to the League title and a 29-9 record. The senior for Kansas Wesleyan notched 178 kills, a .285 hitting percentage and 83 blocks on the season.

Four more former Kanzaland area high school athletes earned honorable mention KCAC All-Conference on the volleyball court as Ashley Dishon, Maddie Lindstorm, Avery Enzbrenner and Madison Hoover all garnered that honor.

Dishon transferred from Highland with Brezina to Bethel College and continued to play well on the volleyball court as the former Horton Charger finished the year with 128 kills, 292 digs, 49 blocks, 48 aces and 671 assists (5.5 assists per game). Ashley as a junior ranked sixth in assists, seventh in assists per game and tied for fourth in aces in the KCAC in her first season with Bethel College.

Lindstorm has partnered with her former high school teammate in Klover over the past four years and they both helped lead Kansas Wesleyan to the League title. Maggie earned honorable mention All-Conference after leading the team in aces with 59, which also ranked second in the League and she ranked first in aces per set. The senior, also led the team in digs with 522 on the year, ranking fifth in the League and seventh in digs per game.

A teammate of both Hill and Tanking at Ottawa University, sophomore Avery Enzbrenner put together a strong second year to earn honorable mention All-Conference. The former Atchison Redmen, notched 187 kills, 49 blocks, a 92.2 passing percentage and 33 assists.

Another former Big Seven League athlete was the other area athlete to earn honorable mention All-Conference as former Royal Valley Panther, Madison Hoover in her senior season with Tabor earned the honors. Hoover posted 162 kills and 61 blocks on the season as Tabor College finished 12-19 this season.

The KJCCC has also handed out All-Conference honors and three former Kanzaland area athletes earned volleyball honors.

Former B&B Falcon, Laura Sudbeck continued to perform well on the volleyball court earning first team KJCCC West All-Conference at outside hitter after helping Cloud County Community College to a 19-9 record. Sudbeck in her freshman season posted 293 kills (3.08 kills per game), which led the team, while also posting 101 digs, 16 aces and 37 blocks.

First team KJCCC East All-Conference honors were earned by former Marysville Bulldog, Blair Russell who in her sophomore year at KCKCC led the team in kills with 516 (3.94 kills per game). Russell added 25 aces, 410 digs and 97 blocks to her season stats, helping KCKCC to a 29-9 record and a spot in the National tournament.

Second team KJCCC East All-Conference honors were earned by a former Jeff West Tiger in Molly Hothan who in her sophomore year in college competed for Fort Scott Community College helping them to a 31-9 record. Hothan notched 334 kills (2.47 kills per game), 134 digs and 133 blocks on the year.
