Academic All America Honors for Pawnee City's Borcher

(KLZA)-- Capital One, in conjunction with the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) announced today the 2014 Academic All-American Football team for the College Division.

Garrett Borcher from Pawnee City, a linebacker for the Tiger football team, was one of 25 players selected among eligible student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.  Borcher is an education major at Doane,  he is a junior.  

The leading tackler for the Tigers, Borcher finished the 2014 season with 96 total tackles which included 45 solo tackles.  He posted 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.  He added one interception and three pass break-ups to go with a fumble recovery.  Borcher also played on special teams and had 60 yards on kick-off returns.

The Doane football team ended the season with a 7-3 record, capped by a victory over then-No. 1 Morningside College.  Doane finished the regular season ranked No. 22 in the NAIA.
