Chargers and Rams Split to Open Up 2015
By Jonny Kane

The 2015 portion of the basketball season got underway on Tuesday night for Jefferson County North and Pleasant Ridge and after the night was over the two teams earned a split.

Girls: Pleasant Ridge 44, Jefferson County North 30

The girls contest started out as a game of runs for both sides as Pleasant Ridge took a 6-4 lead after the end of the first quarter before extending that lead to 8 halfway through the second quarter. Lady Charger Head Coach Steve Noll then took a timeout at the 5:00 mark of the second which seemed to put a jolt into his girls as they then went on a 9-0 run the rest of the first half to take a 13-12 lead into the break.

It was now time for Pleasant Ridge to make their run of game in the third quarter as they outscored JCN 19-3 keyed by 12 points by senior Holly Ewert to give the Lady Rams a 15 point lead heading into the final frame. The fourth quarter was a much better quarter for the Lady Chargers as they outscored Pleasant Ridge 14-13, but only scoring three points in the third quarter proved to be the difference for the Lady Rams as they came away with a 44-30 win. Pleasant Ridge was lead in scoring by Ewert who poured in 17 points on four three pointers to move the Lady Rams to 5-1 on the season.

Boys: Jefferson County North 56, Pleasant Ridge 33

In the boys portion of the nights festivities it was all Jefferson County North as the Chargers went to junior Bryce Noll early and often to give them a 14-6 advantage after the first quarter keyed by 10 points by Noll. The Rams played much better in the second quarter as they tallied 14 points, but because of the disappointing first quarter they saw themselves trailing 31-20 at the halftime break.

Then the third quarter came and it quickly became the Noll show once again as he quickly compiled 17 points including two dunks in the quarter to increase the Charger lead to 31 points after three. Since JCN had the 30 point advantage heading into the fourth the running clock rule was put into action resulting in only 10 points scored combined in the quarter giving the Chargers a huge road win by a final of 56-33. Bryce Noll finished with 27 points to lead all scorers for JCN as they move to 4-2 on the season with the win.
