With the Twin Valley League tournament looming the Centralia Panthers and Frankfort Wildcats squared off in a rivalry matchup on Tuesday, looking for a win to head into the tournament with. At the end of the night it was the Panthers who pounce on a pair of wins topping Frankfort 63-18 in the girls contest and 50-36 in the boy’s game.

Centralia started the night by pouncing on opportunities early in the girls varsity matchup and taking advantage of their size advantage inside with points in the paint and getting plenty of offensive rebounds for second chance opportunities as the Panthers worked out to a 28-0 lead after the first quarter. The lead grew to 47-2 at the half for Centralia as Frankfort struggled to find offense. The Panthers cruised to the 63-18, as it was the play of Cassidy Haufler and Mayda Stallbaumer inside that paced the way early with their post presence.

Haufler and Stallbaumer both posted 11 points for the Panthers on the night and with their play early helped Centralia take a commanding lead, earning them Co-Community National Bank "Player's to Bank" on KMZA. Senior, Liz Hasenkamp led Centralia on the night tallying 17 points, hitting four three-pointers, while Amaris Jones chipped in 10 points, helping Centralia improved to 7-1 on the season and 6-1 in League play.

Franfort with the loss fell to 1-8 on the year and 1-4 in TVL play, after struggling on the night against Centralia. Freshman, Rebecca Adams led Frankfort with six points in the loss.

The boy’s matchup started off close early with Centralia clinging to a 14-12 lead after the first quarter, but the Wildcats went cold from the floor in the second quarter and the Panthers pounced with a 16-2 period, to lead 30-14 at the half. That lead proved to be too much for Frankfort to overcome as Centralia went on to claim the 50-36 win, using solid post play early to help establish their halftime lead.

Junior, John Johnson led the Panthers with 15 points earning him Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA, while Darrian Turner added 13 points and Joey Ferron scored nine. With the win Centralia improved to 8-0 on the year and 7-0 in TVL play.

Frankfort fell to 3-6 on the season and 2-3 in League action with the loss and was led by Jacob Studer who scored 14 points, while Adam Kenworthy tallied 8 points.

Both teams now turn their attention the League tournament that is slated to start on Saturday, January 17th at Onaga high school.
