Sabetha Sweeps Holton to Stay Unbeaten in Big 7

 It was a rematch from the first game of the season, but the same results as the Sabetha Bluejays both improved to 9-0 in Big 7 League Play with wins against visiting Holton on Friday night.

GIRLS = Sabetha 55, Holton 35
The Lady Bluejays responded from their only loss of the season against Paola in the Burlington Invitational by blistering the basketball through the hoop early and often on Friday night.  The Lady Jays led 11-2 and 18-4 before closing the first quarter with a 26-6 lead.  

That 20 point lead held true through the night as Taryn Schuette went off for a season high 23 points, including 8 in the first quarter and at least 4 points in every frame.  Schuette hit 5 of 7 free throws and two trifecat's in the fourth quarter to earn Citizens State Bank and Trust Company "Player to Bank On" honors.  Alexis McAfee also scored 8 in the first quarter and hit a pair of treys to give Sabetha the big lead, and she finished with 12 points.  

Holton was forced into 9 turnovers in the first half and struggled to score the ball with Hayley Thompson's 9 points the high mark for hte night.  Mackenzie Moore added 7 before the Lady Wildcats fell to 7-6 overall and 6-3 in league action.

BOYS = Sabetha 55, Holton 52
This game looked like Sabetha was coasting to a win as well after an early 6-0 run to take a 9-4 lead the Bluejays were ahead 29-19 at halftime.  Sabetha hit five treys in the first half and seemed to be in control still leading 42-32 entering the fourth quarter.  Sophomore, Bryson Patch came off the bench and scored five straight points for Holton and it was "game-on" in the final quarter.  

Trey Tanking did not score in the first three frames but then got hot and scored 8 consecutive points including a couple step-back, guarded, long three's to pull Holton within 51-50 with :18 remaining.  The Bluejays hadn't attempted a free throw until the final minute of the game, but they hit 10 of 12 down the stretch to keep the lead and stay undefeated in league play.  Garett Beecher scored 17 for the Wildcats and Nils Bergsten added a season high 16 before Holton missed a tying shot at the end of regulation and fell to 7-6 overall and 6-3 in Big 7 play.  

Kegan Schumann stroke the nets for a season high 22 points and Brock Frey added 16, while also registering a couple early blocks to set the tone of the game and both Bluejays made three clutch foul shots down the stretch to improve to 12-1 on the campaign.
