Nemaha Central Lady Thunder Open Postseason with Win over Horton

The path to the State tournament started for many teams on Monday night and ended for some teams also as its win or go time as Sub-State basketball has commenced across the State of Kansas. The Nemaha Central lady Thunder welcomed the Horton Chargers to town on Monday for first round Class 3A Sabetha Sub-State action and it was the Thunder sounding for the 55-25 victory.

Nemaha Central had a booming start to the game as they stonewalled Horton holding the Chargers to two-points in the first quarter and capitalized on early turnovers turning them into point to lead 16-2 after the first period. The lead grew to 37-18 by halftime and the Nemaha Central Thunder were in cruise control the rest of the way to notch the 55-25 win on their home floor.

Horton with the loss wraps up their season with a 8-13 record and was led by freshman, Katlyn McAfee who scored eight points, but the team struggled with foul trouble and turnovers ultimately hurting them in the competition.

Senior, Jaci Swart paced the Thunder on the night putting up 22 points with a 15 point performance in the first half to help Nemaha Central set the tone early for the win. The Thunder finished the night with 11 different girls registering at least one point on the night. With the win Nemaha Central improved to 16-5 on the season and advance to the Semifinals of Sub-State on Thursday night at Sabetha were they will square off with Marysville after the Bulldogs upset Maur Hill in the opening round in overtime.
