A ticket into the Sub-State Championship was up for grabs last night at Frankfort in the girls side of competition with the 1A-Division I Sub-State Semifinals and the Centralia Panthers and Valley Heights Mustang lady’s each moved one step closer to the State tournament. It was a pair of routs on the night as Centralia cruised past Immaculata 53-21 and Valley Heights topped Doniphan West 54-31.

Things started off about the best way it could for Centralia as they pounced on Immaculata in a big way in the first quarter outscoring the Raiders 27-0 in the first period, ultilizing their advantage in the post as Mayda Stallbaumer notched 10 points in the first quarter alone for the Panthers. Centralia added a little to the lead by halftime as they led 42-11 at the half. Stallbaumer and Cassidy Haufler led the charge for Centralia each posting 12 points in the first half all coming from inside the paint or from the free throw line. The Panthers used a 11-2 third quarter to stretch the lead out further and go on to win the contest 53-21.

With the win Centralia improves to 18-4 on the season and earns a spot in the Sub-State Championship on Saturday in Frankfort, looking to return to the State tourney for the first time since 2012. It was the dynamic duo of Stallbaumer and Haufler leading the way for Centralia as they finished with 16 and 12 points, respectively earning them co-Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA radio. Liz Hasenkamp chipped in 13 points, hitting three three-pointers in the matchup.

Immaculata with the loss wraps up their year 10-11 and was led by Mary Kate Wolken who scored eight points. The Raiders who moved down to 1A this year improved their win total from the previous year by three this season under first year head coach, James Bishop.

In the night cap the battle of Mustangs started off slow as neither team got out of the gates fast with Valley Heights holding just a 9-3 lead after the first quarter. Things changed in the second quarter as Valley Heights galloped out to a 26-8 halftime lead over Doniphan West behind a 17-5 second quarter. Doniphan West came out with energy to start the second half but Valley Heights withstood the run and ultimate the halftime deficit proved to be too much for Doniphan West to overcome. Valley Heights closed out the game with a 14-9 fourth quarter to earned the 54-31 win.

With the loss Doniphan West ends their year with a 10-13 record and was led by Regan Gibson in the contest as she posted 14 points.

Valley Heights with the win improved to 16-6 on the year and moved into the Sub-State Championship, one-game away from a return trip to the State after finishing second last year at State. Sidney Blackburn led Valley Heights with 21 points, while Kayla Smith chipped in 18 points in the win.

Centralia and Valley Heights girls will hit the court on Saturday night at Frankfort at 6:00pm to vie for the Sub-State title and the right to play at the 1A-DI State tournament in Emporia.
