It was the boys semifinals at the 2A Valley Falls Sub State on Thursday night and the top two seeds advanced to the championship. Ranked team Jackson Heights and Troy will meet for the first time this season on Saturday night at 7:30 with the winner advancing to state for the first time in a long while.

Jackson Heights 61, Bishop Seabury 60

After a 6-0 start by Jackson Heights, Bishop Seabury battled through foul trouble and took a 21-16 lead at the end of one quarter.  Both teams were knocking down treys and the Cobras made the final shot of the first half to lead 28-27. WIth an 18-11 run third quarter, Jackson Heights had an eight point led and briefly went ahead 53-43 with 5:30 to play in the game.  Yet, freshman Zach McDermott and Bonsi King plus sophomore, Maxwell Easter all hit shots behind the arc to bring the Seahawks back and eventually tie the game at 57 with two minutes remaining.

Wyatt Olberding scored in every quarter for Jackson Heights and made four trifecta's, but it was his two free throws that put the Cobras back on top 59-57 with 35 second left. McDermott knocked down the fifth trey of the fourth quarter with 12 seconds left to give Bishop Seabury their second lead of the second half. There was also a foul on the Cobras, but the Seahawks missed the front end of a one-and-one and Jackson Heights drove the lenght of the court  and found their star junior, Zane Richter, who drove the base-line and scored just before time expired to give the #1 seed their 20th victory of the season. Richter finished with 21 and Olberding added 15 with Lane Slocum and Seth Holliday each adding 8 points.

The Cobras hit 10 three-pointers, but none in the fouth quarter, and won their 11th straight game despite struggling to make just 9 of 20 at the foul-line.  Bishop Seabury ends their season 14-8, but will be a force the next few years with four under-classmen starters, including their top two scorers, Micahel Wycoff (sophomore) who finished with 23 and McDermott, who added 17.  Fellow freshman, King, chipped in 9 points for the Seahawks.

Troy 59, Jeff County North 45

It was a slow start as JCN led 9-8 after one quarter.  Yet, Troy got hot in a hurry with a 17-2 run to begin the second stanza and took control of the game.  The Trojans led by double digits the rest of the night, except for a brief 6-0 spurt by the Chargers to begin the fourth quarter and pull within 45-37.

Nathan Gaarder scored 18 points for Troy (19-4) while Jake Ross added 12 for the second straight game and Tristan Speer and Collin Jasper added 10 to put four seniors in double-figures.

Shawn Lane scored 14 of his 15 points in the second half and Bryce Noll scored the first 8 points of the game for JCN, but finished with 13 points and only two following intermission.  The Chargers end the season with a 14-8 record.
