By Jonny Kane

It was girls Class 2A Sub-State Semi-Final action in Valley Falls on Friday night between Maranatha and Valley Falls and it was a game that was never in doubt from the opening tip

Valley Falls 50, Maranatha 15

The Lady Dragons did not allow a field goal to Maranatha in the opening frame and forced 16 Lady Eagle turnovers to jump out to a 17-2 advantage after the first. Maranatha did a much better job of holding on to the basketball in the second quarter, but Valley used a 17-3 stanza to push the lead to 29 at halftime, 34-5.

The Valley Falls defense was suffocating all night as they held Maranatha to just 3 points in the third quarter and jumping out to a 44-7 lead before a running clock in the fourth ended things with a 50-15 final.

Maranatha finished the ballgame with 31 turnovers and only five made field goals as they ended their season with a 10-12 record. Valley Falls moved their record to 20-2 overall with the win and were led in scoring by freshman Rachel Frakes who contributed 13 points with seven of those points coming in the opening frame.

Valley Falls now moves into the Sub-State Championship game on Saturday night where they will take on the Troy Lady Trojans for a spot at the 2A State Tournament in Manhattan next week. Saturday's Championship game will be aired on tape delay on KAIR 93.7 FM and will begin immediately following the conclusion of the Benedictine Men's HAAC Tournament Semi-Final game.
