It took a come from behind effort for the Atchison Redmen boys and are head to the State for the first time since 2007 with a 67-63 win over Holton in the 4A-Division II Sub-State Championship at Royal Valley.
The Holton Wildcats looked to be in control as they shoot themselves to a 16-8 lead after the first quarter but Atchison quickly closed the gap in the second quarter of action as Holton held just a 27-25 lead at halftime. That lead disappeared in the third quarter as Atchison put together a 23-11 third quarter to take control and ultimately held off Holton for the four-point win.
Holton with the loss finishes off their year 15-7 and was led by a trio of guys in double figures as Garrett Beecher posted 23 points to lead the Wildcats and Trey Tanking added 19 points with Indie Allen scoring 10 points.
A trio of double figure scorers paced Atchison in the win as Wykeen Gill posted a game-high with 25 points, while Adam Smith scored 17 points and RaShaun Chambers chipped in 12 points. With the win Atchison improved to 13-9 on the season and will head to the 4A-DII State tournament.
The Redmen will continue their season at Hartman Arena in Park City, Kansas and will hit the court again on Wednesday for their opening round game.
