After a surprise in the 1A-Division II Sub-State tournament at Blue Valley-Randolph with the upset of the number one seed the spot at the State tournament was up for grabs between the Wetmore and Linn girls and the Cardinals flew home on Saturday with a Sub-State title and a ticket to the State tournament with a 47-45 win.

Wetmore Cardinals held just the 25-20 lead at halftime against Linn and used a 13-9 third quarter to provide further distance between themselves and the Bulldogs. But Linn didn't go away quietly outscoring Wetmore 16-9 in the fourth but a late last second shot to win by Linn fell short and the Cardinals picked up the 47-45 win.

Kesiah Thalmann led Linn in the loss as she posted 14 points, while Liza van der Merwe chipped in 10 points as Linn wrapped up their season with a 14-9 record.

The win pushed Wetmore to 16-8 on the year and into the State tournament for the first time since 2012, when the Cardinals placed fourth in 1A-DII. Dakota McQueen and Gerae Haverkamp each paced the Cardinals in the Sub-State Championship win, as each gal posted 11 points in the win, while the team shot 21-34 from the charity stripe.

The season will continue for Wetmore next Wednesday at the 1A-DII State tournament in Dodge City at the United Wireless Arena.
