Hanover Boys Punch Ticket to 1A-DI State Tourney While Girls Lose Tight Game

The great season continues for the Hanover Wildcat boys as they cruised to the Sub-State Championship title in 1A-Division I at Clifton-Clyde on Saturday, while the lady Wildcats took a tough loss seeing their season come to a close. The Hanover boys topped Osborne 58-38, while the girls fell to Thunder Ridge 37-33.

The night started off with the girl's varsity action and both Hanover and Thunder Ridge got off to a slow start in the matchup with Thunder Ridge holding the 16-10 lead at halftime. The Wildcats fought back in the third quarter tying the game at 25-25 going into the fourth quarter, after a 15-9 fourth period. The fourth would go Thunder Ridge's way as they outscored Hanover 12-8 to lay claim to the 37-33 victory and end Hanover's season.

Lady Wildcats were led by Pam Zarybnicky who posted eight points and grabbed seven rebounds in the loss as Hanover wrapped up the year 14-9.

The night finished in Clyde, Kansas with the Hanover boys earning a spot in the Class 1A-DI State tournament by cruising past Osborne. The Wildcats worked out to a 21-14 lead after the first quarter and over the next two periods assured themselves that the game was firmly in their favor posting 17-5 and 15-6 second and third quarters. The number one 1A-DI team in the State went on to pick up the 20-point win 58-38 over Osborne.

With the win Hanover improved to 22-1 on the year and earned a spot at the State tournament for the first time since 2011. Will Bruna paced the Wildcats in the win with 12 points, while Cody Rengstorf added nine points as nine different Wildcats scored in the win.

Hanover will hit the court to continue their season at the Class 1A-DI State tournament in Emporia at White Auditorium with their opening round game on Thursday.
