The lady Cardinals returned to State for the first time since 2012 and looking to knock off a top seed in the opening round of the 1A-DII State tournament and after drawing the seven seed and facing the two seeded St. John's-Tipton Bluejays in the opening round.

It was the Bluejays flying out to the early lead in the battle of the birds as Wetmore trailed 18-9 after the first quarter of action and that lead grew to 12-points by halftime with St. John's-Tipon leading 34-22. The Bluejays were shooting at a 42% at halftime and the Cardinals struggled shooting early hitting only seven first half shots shooting 29% from the floor. The second half wasn't a different story as the Cardinals rained in five more three's like in the first half but St. John's-Tipton hit only five field goals and eight free throws in the second half. Wetmore worked back into the ball game and tied it in the final seconds, but down by three after free throws by the Bluejays had one last opportunity to tie the game but a three-pointer fell short at the buzzer.

Sophomore, Dakota McQueen paced the Cardinals with 18 points and six rebounds, going 5-8 from three-point range as Wetmore was 10-23 from three as a team. Junior, Gerae Haverkamp added 17 points, eight rebounds and four steals going 7-18 from the floor, while senior, Keri Pfrang notched 12 points, hitting three three-pointers. Rebounding hurt the Cardinals in the matchup as St. John's-Tipton out-rebounded Wetmore 47-26.

The loss wraps up a solid season for the Wetmore Cardinals as they finish with a 16-9 record and made the State tournament for the fifth time in school history.
