Lady Ravens Advance to Second Round of NAIA National Tournament
By Jonny Kane

The game went  to the final buzzer, but the Benedictine Women's Basketball team ultimately outlasted No. 14 Wiley College 83-76 in the first round of the NAIA Women's Div. I National Tournament on Wednesday afternoon.

The No. 19-ranked Lady Ravens got off to a slow start as the Wildcats quickly jumped out to a six point lead. Benedictine then went on a run of their own to jump back ahead by 10 points, but Wiley was able to battle back to take a 39-38 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break the Ravens used another big run to take back the lead and go up by 10 points just minutes into the second half.

Once again, Wiley came right back with a run of their own to tie the game back up at 68 points a piece which ensured a fantastic finish.

Perhaps the biggest shot of the game came by former Jefferson Co. North product Jordan Kramer as she nailed a baseline jump shot with 1:10 remaining to give Benedictine a two point lead.

Ali Taff then hit a corner 3-pointer to push the lead to six points and out of reach for the Wildcats.

Chayla Rutledge led the Lady Ravens in scoring with 17 points while Jackie Ziesel and Jayde Reid each had 14 points.

Benedictine will now take on No. 1 Freed-Hardeman on Friday afternoon at 12:30. Tom and Gus Kautz will have the call for that match up with pre game set for 12:15 on KAIR 93.7 FM and at www.mscsports.net.
