Vermillion Claims Top Spots at Centralia Boys Golf Invite

The week started off with beautiful weather for high school sports in Northeast Kansas and several area teams teed it up on Monday at the Centralia boys golf Invitational.

At the end of the competition it was the host Vermillion (Centralia/Frankfort) coming out on top posting the best team score with a 394, edging out Holton JV team who shot a 396 as a team for second. Washington County and Sabetha JV also field teams taking third and fourth, respectively with scores of 417 and 448.

Leading the charge for Vermillion was Ryan Vernon and Danny Mueting who posted the best two rounds of golf on the day taking first and second place, respectively. Vernon had the best round posting a 90 on the scorecard, finishing three-strokes ahead of Mueting who shot a 93 to take second place. Chase Boyce and Austin Hardwick both registered Top 15 finishes placing 12th and 15th with rounds of 105 and 106, respectively. Sean Rempe and Kobe Rumbo also competed for Vermillion scoring rounds of 110 and 114 on the day.

The Holton JV team was led by four individual Top 10 performances with a fourth place finish by Bryson Patch leading the way, as he posted a round of 94. Brandt Rose, Lucas Lovvorn and Dylan Aeschilman finished seventh, ninth and tenth, respectively after tallying rounds of 99, 101 and 102. Austin Hess took 11th place on the day with a 103, while Ethan Deegan registered a round of 113.

Washington County Tigers were led by a third place finish on the day by Evan Oullette as he shot a 94, taking third. Fellow Tiger, Hunter Johnson picked up a sixth place finish after carding a round 96. Matt Small, Sidney Applegarth and Scott Romeiser also competed for the Tigers on the day notching rounds of 109, 119 and 140.

Only two golfers hit the course for Valley Heights as Payton Manley and Bryan Yungeberg both teed it up for the Mustangs and Manley behind a round of 94 took fifth place, while Yungeberg shot a 124.

Onaga was led by Trenton Ross who finished in the Top 10 after scoring a round of 100 to take eighth, James Johnson shot a 105 to place 13th at the Centralia Invite for Onaga. Quentin Lara also competed for the Buffalos notching a 155 on the day.

Sabetha JV squad was led by Anthony Martin who took 14th place with a 106, while his teammates Eric Meyer, Tanner Ukele, Michaela Krebs, Logan Bitterman and Hunter Hayie registered rounds of 108, 111, 123, 124 and 131, respectively.
