Several TVL Teams Highlight Washington County Track Invite

On a beautiful Tuesday afternoon several Twin Valley League teams converged upon the track at Washington County high school and took to action looking to outperform each other.

At the end of the day it was the Washington County boys and the Linn girls earning the top team spots in the action. For the host Tigers the boys notched 145.5 points to claim the top team honors, with Hanover taking second with 109 points and Valley Heights notched third place. Axtell and Republic County finished out the Top five placing fourth and fifth, respectively, while Linn took sixth, Pike Valley seventh, Centralia eighth, Onaga ninth, Blue Valley-Randolph tenth and Clifton-Clyde 11th. In the girls competition Linn posted 105 points to claim the top spot, while Axtell girls finished second with 80 points just three points ahead of Centralia and Valley Heights who tied for third place. Washington County and Hanover girls tied for fifth, while Clifton-Clyde took seventh, Republic County eighth, Onaga ninth, Blue Valley-Randolph tenth and Pike Valley 11th.

Linn and Hanover registered the most first place performances on the day with seven each between the girls and boys competition.

Leading the way for the Linn girls was Kendra Bargman as she sprinted to wins in the 100 and 200 meter dashes posting times of 12.47 and 26.23, while the lady Bulldogs relay teams won the 4x100 and 4x400 with times of 50.87 and 4:15.57. Brooke Diederich also grabbed gold for the lady Bulldogs winning the long jump with a leap of 16'04. In the boys action Grant Cook won the javelin (162'01) and Chad Gross won the high jump (6'04).

For Hanover the boys led the way as Evan Zabokrtsky dashed his way to gold in the 100 and 200 meter dashes behind times of 10.83 and 22.46. Preston Jueneman picked up first place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.00 and the Hanover boys also won the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays after posting times of 43.22 and 3:30.05. The lady Wildcats earned a win in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:42.12, while Claire Zarybnicky won the 800 meter run registering a time of 2:32.64.

Host Washington County Tigers were led by five first place finishes with four coming in the boy’s competition. Brett Herrs led the way tossing his way to wins in the shot put and discus, behind tosses of 54'07 and 139'05.50, while Levi Gauby vaulted to the win in the pole vault (12'06) and Dylan Hodgson won the 1600 meter run (4:15.61). Brooke Tuma claimed the only girls first place finish for the Tigers, using a toss of 114'06 to win the discus.

Valley Heights Mustangs continued to have top notch performances from several athletes on the year as Elijah Smith, Ardian Pishny and Shelby Vermetten each picked up a first place finish. Smith leapt his way to wins in the long jump and triple jump with leaps of 21'02.25 and 42'10.50, while Pishny won the 3200 meter run (10:34.52) and Vermetten claimed gold in the shot put (36'10).

Mariah Deters led the Axtell Eagles as she leapt to wins in both the triple jump (34'03.75) and high jump (5'04), while her teammates Kiersten Talbot and Bradie Schmitz won the 1600 meter run (5:43.98) and 400 meter dash (59.70), respectively.

Onaga was led by Garrett Ames on the day as he swept the boys hurdles posting times of 16.92 and 42.76 to win the 110 and 300 meter hurdles.

While, Clifton-Clyde had a pair of gold medals earned also with Elizabeth Nobert and Kourtni Hubert each winning events. Nobert notched a time of 48.74 to win the girls 300 meter hurdles, while Hubert posted a toss of 117'08 to win the girls javelin.

Both Centralia and Blue Valley each had one event winner on the day as Sadie Jones won the girls 3200 meter run (12:52.09) for the Panthers and Georgia Hateshol won the girls 100 meter hurdles (16.31).
