Sabetha Girls & Perry Lecompton Boys Win Big 7 Track Quad at Perry Lecompton

Four Big Seven League teams squared off in track and field action at Perry Lecompton on Tuesday in a Big Seven quad with Sabetha, Royal Valley and ACCHS competing along with the host Kaws of Perry Lecompton.

The Sabetha girls claimed the top team spot with 103 points, winning by 39 points as ACCHS took second place, Royal Valley third and Perry Lecompton fourth. While in the boys competition Perry Lecompton with 114.5 points took the top team honor, with Sabetha finishing second, Royal Valley third and ACCHS fourth.

Sabetha Bluejays dominated the day winning 19 events between the girls and boys action with three multi-event winners. Nicole Brey and Heidi Heiniger each won two events in the girls action as Brey sprinted to wins in the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 13.63 and 27.21 and Heiniger won the 300 meter hurdles (53.53) and tossed her way to the javelin win with a toss of 137'11. The lady Bluejays also took the gold in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays with times of 53.07 and 4:24.53, while Mariah Huneke and Meagan Garrett won the discus (100'07) and high jump (5'02), respectively.

In the boys action for Sabetha, Keegan Cox paced his way to wins in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, registering times of 5:06.73 and 11:02.61, while Corbin Cox won the 800 meter run (2:09.43) and the Bluejays swept the relays winning the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 with times of 46.48, 3:42.25 and 9:06.30. Four more golds were picked up by the Bluejays in the field events as Treavor Schmelzle, Jacob Leuthold, Christian Meyer and Taylor Meyer all won events. Schmelzle posted a leap of 6'00 to win the high jump, Leuthold registered a toss of 44'02.50 to win the shot put, while Christian Meyer won the pole vault (10'00) and Taylor Meyer won the javelin (155'00).

Seven first place finishes were earned by the ACCHS Tigers with five in the girl’s competition. Madison Bissell and Beba Scholz each won a distance race posting times of 5:57.93 and 2:31.77, respectively to win the 1600 and 800 meter runs. The lady Tigers also claimed the gold in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:47.10, while Courtney Coder and Katie Sullivan won the long jump (14'10) and triple jump (31'07). Josh Weaver claimed the only first place finishes for the Tiger boys winning the 300 meter hurdles (46.31) and triple jump (40'03.50).

Host Perry Lecompton was led by the strong performance of Cody Williams who won four events as he claimed first in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes with times of 11.23, 22.92 and 52.28, while also leaping to the gold in the long jump (19'07.50). Deke Hanson and Shawn Reed each also registered first place finishes for the Kaws in the boy’s discus (119'00) and 110 meter hurdles (20.30), respectively. Taylor Ball won the only gold for the lady Kaws winning the shot put with a toss of 35'05.

Royal Valley was led by Katie Hanshaw, Macy Putnam and Carley Shane who won the 3200 meter run (13:07.81), 400 meter dash (1:04.93) and pole vault (7'06), respectively.
