Nemaha Central Girls & Holton Boys Take Top Spots at Big 7 Track Quad at Jeff West

It was League action at Jeff West on Tuesday as five Big Seven League schools got together to compete in track and field action.

Nemaha Central ladies and the Holton boys came out on top on the day with the best overall team performances. The lady Thunder posted 116 points, claiming first place over second place team Jeff West by 41 points. Holton, Riverside and Hiawatha girls finished out the team standings in third, fourth and fifth. For the boys action Holton edged out Nemaha Central by two points to take first place, tallying 81 points to the Thunder's 79 points. Riverside, Jeff West and Hiawatha boys finished out the team standings in third, fourth and fifth.

The Thunder sounded with 14 event wins on the day for Nemaha Central, seven each coming by the girls and boys. Lady Thunder was led by a pair of multi-event winners as Rachael Baumgartner and Kaley Dalinghaus won two events each. Baumgartner raced to the win in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 49.12, while posting a vault of 9'06 to win the pole vault. For Dalinghaus she tossed her way to the win both the javelin and shot put with tosses of 105'04 and 37'05. Nemaha Central girls also claimed gold in the 4x800 meter relay (11:25.12), while Mikayla Peterson won the 800 meter run (2:36.86) and Samantha Wessel took first in the long jump (15'09).

On the boys side of competition for Nemaha Central it was the performances of Jacob Koelzer and Colin Lierz leading the way as they both won multiple events. Koelzer sprinted to the win in the 100 meter dash (11.06) and leapt to the win the long jump (20'10.75), while Lierz won the 800 and 1600 meter runs with times of 2:05.19 and 4:54.30. Two more golds were picked up on the track as the Thunder boys won the 4x800 meter relay (9:01.24) and Mikeal Sperfslage won the 3200 meter run (11:12.18). Caleb Henry grabbed the gold in the pole vault with a vault of 10'06.

Holton Wildcats earned 10 first place finishes with six coming in the boys action leading them to the team win. Spencer Baum and Will Wright each sprinted to wins on the day, coming in the 200 and 400 meter dash, respectively with times of 23.78 and 52.69. The Wildcat boys also won two of three relays events, notching times of 45.09 and 3:39.22 to win the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay. Brandon Lehnherr and Indee Allen won the shot put (41'09) and triple jump (42'10.50) for Holton. In the girl’s action Kimmie Snepp, Holly Karn and Alexis Garcia each picked up golds coming in the 100 meter dash (12.71), 100 meter hurdles (15.93) and 1600 meter run (6:31.90), respectively, while the lady Wildcats also won the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 51.70.

Seven different Jeff West Tigers picked up event wins on the day as they host the Big Seven track action on Tuesday. For the lady Tigers Janelle Debus with a leap of 4'11 won the high jump and Mariah Murdie won the triple jump with a leap of 35'06. While on the track the lady Tigers won the 4x400 meter relay (4:30.50), Jordan Hawman won the 200 meter dash (27.03) and Makenzie Tucker took first in the 400 meter dash (1:03.79). Michael Majors and Triston Giltner each picked up a gold medal winning the boys discus (133'11) and boy’s high jump (6'02) for the Tigers.

Andrae McGaughy led the performances for the Riverside Cyclones as he swept the hurdles winning the 110 and 300 meter hurdles with times of 15.33 and 41.03, while Dalton Resler won the javelin with a toss of 128'00. Berkley Hansen brought home gold in the girls 3200 meter run (18:17.93) for the Riverside girls.

Hiawatha had just one event winner on the day as Emily Gartner claimed first in the girl’s discus with a toss 145'11.
