Six NEKS Area Teams Compete at Atchison Boys Golf Invite

Six area teams along with eight others took to the golf course in Atchison and competed as part of the Atchison boys golf Invitational at the Bellvue Country Club on Thursday.

Only one area team managed to crack the Top five of the 14 teams competing on the day as Holton took fifth place with a 359, just two-strokes off of fourth and six off third place. Immaculata followed right behind Holton in sixth as a team with a 366 team score, while Maur Hill-Mount Academy took 10th (383), Atchison 11th (388), Hiawatha 12th (451) and Royal Valley also competed but did not field a team. Desoto, KC Christian and Piper claimed the Top three team performances with scores of 3396, 342 and 353.

In the individual action four of the Top 10 performances were earned by area golfers including Gabe Julo of Atchison earning first place after shooting a 74, to win by three strokes. Also competing for Atchison on the day was Dustin Goodman (99), Austin Ober (106), Derek Thompson (109), Jase Nelson (112) and Katelyn Truman (140).

Maur Hill was led on the day by the second best individual round as Christian Wessel shot a 77 to take home second place. Drew Harris, Canyon Miller and Corbin Pulido capped off the Ravens team score on the day with rounds of 95, 105 and 106, while Nolan Dulac and Isaac Henderson carded rounds of 108 and 109.

The Holton Wildcats who had the best area team performance were led by Braden Sides who behind a round of 80 earned sixth place individually. Hayden May shot an 85 for the Wildcats, while Nils Bergsten carded a 95, both Garret Beecher and A.J. Haussler tallied rounds of 97 and Parker Sides shot a 98 for the Wildcats.

Evin Wheaton was the only other area golfer to earn a Top 10 performance as the Immaculata Raider carded a 84 to finish tenth, while his teammate Dawson Schroeder also carded an 84 but finished just outside of the Top 10. Ian Wheaton added a round of 96 for the Raiders, while Max Campbell shot a 102, Jacob Murphy a 107 and Justin Varney a 119.

Hiawatha Red Hawks on the day were led by Taylor Jacobsen who posted a even 100, while Josh Sangrait tallied a 105. Tom Nolte, Tarren Miller Keenan Hinton and Zach Perry also competed for the Red Hawks posting rounds of 121, 125, 126 and 130.

The Royal Valley Panthers had one representative on the day as Brandon Hart competed and posted a round of 113 at the Atchison Invitational.
