Jeff West Track Competes at Wamego Invite

The Jeff West Tigers stepped outside of the area competition on Thursday to compete against three other non-area schools in track and field action and came away with multiple top notch performances, competing at the Wamego Invitational. The Tigers competed against host Wamego, along with Santa Fe Trail and Salina South.

Nine first place performances were earned by Tigers on the day with Triston Giltner leading the way as he won two events. Giltner sprinted his way to a time of 24.50 to win the 200 meter dash and leapt to the win in the high jump with a leap of 5'10. William Jernberg, Trey Markham and Gabe Orndorff also claimed first place finishes in the boys competition winning the 1600 meter run (5:07.09), 300 meter hurdles (45.59) and long jump (17'04), respectively, while the Tigers 4x400 meter relay team posted a time of 3:54.06 to take the gold. On the girls side of competition Janelle Debus, Tess Watson and Brooke Dillenbeck each won a field event for Jeff West, all leaping to victory. Debus took first in the high jump (4'10), Watson won the long jump (14'06) and Dillenbeck placed first in the triple jump (31'07.75).

Of the first place winners Orndorff also claimed a second place in the pole vault and third in the triple jump, while several other Tigers earned Top three finishes on the day. On the track the Tiger boys took second in both the 4x100 and 4x800 meter relays, while Ryan Wisner took the silver in the 400 meter dash and Hunter Carter grabbed the bronze in the 3200 meter run. For the field events Cameron White took second in the shot put, while Joshua Massey grabbed third in the shot put and discus, Tyler Casto finished with the bronze medal in the pole vault and Tristan Hunt placed third in the javelin.

Destiny Wright picked up three Top three performances for the lady Tigers as she placed second in both the long jump and 100 meter hurdles and finished third in the 800 meter run, while the lady Tigers grabbed second place finishes in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. Hannah Magathan, Jordan Biggs, Myranda Bahm and Heather Hunter each placed third in the 400 meter dash, 200 meter dash, long jump and 300 meter hurdles, respectively for Jeff West.

The Tigers have a quick turnaround as they hit the track again on Friday at the Seaman Invitational.
