As it's been a rain soaked week Mother Nature held off with the rain and storms long enough in Hoyt on Thursday as Royal Valley hosted several teams for track and field action. The meet was cut a little short due to weather as the 3200 meter run and 4x400 meter relay events did not take place.

When all the events were in the books it was the host Royal Valley Panther boys’ team and the Jeff West Tiger girls that grabbed the top spots. The Panther boys just edged out Atchison for first place tallying 95 total points, while Atchison posted 93 for second place and Holton was not far behind in third with 90 total points. McLouth, Oskaloosa, Jeff West, Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Silver Lake boys finished out the team standings in fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth.

It was a little wider of a margin in the girls team standings but still close as the lady Tigers of Jeff West finished with 105 points, just nine points ahead of Atchison who took second, while Holton grabbed third. Royal Valley, Maur Hill-Mount Academy, McLouth, Oskaloosa and Silver Lake girls finished out the team standings placing fourth, fifth and sixth, while Oskaloosa and Silver Lake tied for seventh.

The host Royal Valley Panthers picked up the most event wins with nine between the girls and boys competitions with Katie Hanson leading the charge behind her three gold medals on the day. Hanson paced her way to a time of 5:58.60 to win the 1600 meter run, while registering tosses of 107'03.50 and 114'04 to win the discus and javelin, respectively. Macy Putnam added gold for the lady Panthers winning the 300 meter hurdles behind a time of 49.93. For the Panther boys on their way to a first place finish they had Eugene Maquat sweep the hurdles again this season posting times of 16.27 and 41.72 to win the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. While the other three boys first place finishes were earned in the field events as Patrick Broxterman won the high jump (6'04), Garrett Hicks took first in the pole vault (11'00) and Jarrett Roy grabbed first place in the javelin (144'08).

Jeff West Tigers earned seven first place finishes with five coming in the girl’s competition leading them to the girl’s team title. All five of the girls first place finishes came in the field events for the Tigers as Janelle Debus, Tess Watson and Brooke Dillenbeck all leaped their way to wins in the high jump (4'08), long jump (15'01) and triple jump (32'00), respectively. While, Alyssa Garza took home gold in the girl’s shot put (33'03.75) and Makenzie Tucker won the pole vault (9'00). Michael Majors captured the two boys first place finishes for the Tigers winning both the shot put (48'10.25) and discus (150'02.50).

Seven first place finishes highlighted the action for the Holton Wildcats with Kimmie Snepp leading the way by winning both the girls 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 12.43 and 25.75, which set new school records in both events. Holly Karn earned the gold in the 100 meter hurdles (16.14) and the lady Wildcats posted a time of 52.64 to win the 4x100 meter relay. The boys also won a relay, as they took first in the 4x800 with a time of 9:09.89, while Mason Strader won the 1600 meter run (4:56.16) and Indee Allen took first in the long jump (19'10).

Atchison Redmen laid claim to five event titles with four coming in the boy’s action at the Royal Valley Invitational. Lamarca Tolbert sprinted to the win in the 100 meter dash (11.18), while Jerel Rawls won the 400 meter dash (51.35) and Tyler DeSilva took first in the 800 meter run (2:11.15). The Atchison boys also took first in the 4x100 meter relay after posting a time of 44.81. Jaihlyn Bratton grabbed the lone first place finish for the lady Red as she won the 400 meter dash with a time of 62.12.

For Maur Hill it was two events in the girl’s events that led the way as the lady Ravens won the 4x800 meter relay (10:32.42) and Grace Siebert won the 800 meter run (2:32.19).

Oskaloosa had one event winner on the day as Tommy Molder posted the fastest time in the boys 200 meter dash (22.90) to take first.
