Six State Titles Headline Area Performances in Class 3A at Kansas State Track Meet

Six State titles highlighted the Class 3A State track competition for the area as five of the six were captured by Big Seven League athletes.

The best team overall performances came by the Nemaha Central Thunder as the boys placed third and the girls fourth, just missing out on one spot higher by single digit points.

Leading the charge for Nemaha Central was a pair of State Champions in Jacob Koelzer and Shaylyn Stallbaumer who won the boys long jump (21’04) and girl’s javelin (143’09). Koelzer added a pair of second place finishes in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, just missing out on the State title in the 100 by a nose, while Stallbaumer added a third place finish in the shot put to her State track performance.

On the track for the Thunder boys Zach Bradley medal in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles placing second and eighth, while Colin Lierz took sixth in the 1600 meter run. In the field events Caleb Bradley notched a fourth place finish in the pole vault and Abe Elder took fifth in the triple jump. For the lady Thunder all their top flight performances came in the field events as Kaley Dalinghaus, Samantha Wessel, Allison Rottinghaus and Rachael Baumgartner all joined Stallbaumer with at least one Top eight performance. Dalinghaus took fifth in the shot put and sixth in the javelin, while Rottinghaus and Wessel placed fourth eighth in the triple jump, respectively and Baumgartner tied for third in the pole vault.

A State title by Emily Gartner led the way for the Hiawatha Red Hawks, as she posted a toss of 138’10 to claim the discus State title, while also taking fourth in the shot put. The quartet of Molly Kettler, Kailey Davis, Courtney Brockhoff and Jordan Puvogel took the silver medal in the girl’s 4x800 meter relay, while Puvogel also placed fourth and sixth in the 3200 and 1600 meter runs, respectively. Brendan Steele medaled in a pair of events for the Red Hawks taking sixth in the 400 meter dash and seventh in the long jump, while teaming up with Ryker Smith, Jesse Quinn and Brandt Houk to place sixth in the 4x800 meter relay. Gavin Lierz took seventh in the 300 meter hurdles for Hiawatha in Class 3A at State track.

Meagan Garrett of Sabetha three-peated as the girl’s high jump Class 3A State Champ posting a leap of 5’04 in the finals to take the gold. Six other medals were earned by Sabetha Bluejay athletes as Heidi Heinger and Emily Meyer took fourth and fifth place in the girl’s javelin, respectively, while Corbin Cox registered a fifth place finish in the boys 800 meter run. Rhianna Becker brought home a seventh place finish in the girls discus, while the team of Mitchell Lierz, Brett Plattner, Kellen Russell and Cox placed seventh in the 4x800 meter relay and Taylor Meyer grabbed an eighth place finish in the boys javelin.

Marysville Bulldog, Josef Smith behind a time of 4:35.03 claimed the State title in the boys 1600 meter run, while placing fourth in the 3200 meter run for the Bulldogs. Claire Cudney and Adam Lindhorst each picked up a sixth place finish for the Marysville coming in the girl’s triple jump and boy’s discus.

Riverside Cyclone, Andrae McGaughy raced his way to the State title in the boy’s 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.25 and was the only medalist for the Cyclones at State track.

Horton Charger, Trey Dishon medaled in his two events as he tossed his way to second place in the discus and fifth in the shot put.

For the Maur Hill-Mount Academy Ravens the team of Avery Lewman, Heather Ronnebaum, Catherine Campbell and Grace Siebert finished third in the girls 4x800 meter relay, while Siebert also picked up a sixth place finish in the 400 meter dash.

ACCHS Tigers were led by Madison Bissell who place fourth in the girls 800 meter run and ran with Kayla Vessar, Lillie Holtgrave and Rebekah Scholz to an eighth place finish in the girls 4x400 meter relay.
