Washington County Leads Area Performances in Class 2A at Kansas State Track Meet

The Class 2A State track action was highlighted by Washington County from the Twin Valley League for the area teams as the boys finished second as a team by 1.5 points and the girls took finished fifth as a team.

Dylan Hodgson and Erin Alexander led the way for Washington County by repeating as State Champs in the boys 3200 meter run (9:41.61) and the girl’s shot put (39’09.50). Hodgson added a pair of second place finishes in the 800 and 1600 meter run to his final State track meet, while Alexander also took fourth in the discus. Sixteen more medals were earned by Washington County Tiger athletes in Class 2A. Brett Herrs brought home a silver medal in the boy’s shot put, while also taking fifth in the discus and the team of Cole Thompson, Jae Eaton, Jefferson Simmons and Konnor Penning also picked up a second place finish in the boys 4x100 meter relay with a time of 44.90. Thompson added a fifth place and seventh place finish to his State track performance in the 200 and 400 meter dashes. Jerrod Hoover and Martin Walter placed third and sixth, respectively in the boy’s high jump, while Justin Hoover and Colin Cudney took sixth and seventh in the pole vault, Hunter Kier placed seventh in the discus and Kyle Edgar earned an eighth place finish in the long jump.

On the girls side of competition Courtney Moore raced to sixth place in the 100 meter hurdles, while four more medals were earned in by the lady Tigers in the field events. Jenna Hennerberg grabbed a fourth place finish in the shot put, while Heidi Stegman took fourth in the pole vault and Jena Habegger seventh in the same event and Brooke Tuma earned a seventh place finish in the discus.

Onaga, Jefferson County North and Valley Falls all had a pair of Top eight performers at State track in Class 2A. For the Buffalos Michael Bliss and Cheyenne Brunkow each tossed their way to medals as Bliss placed sixth in the boy’s javelin and Brunkow eighth in the girl’s shot put.

JCN Chargers were led by the quartet of Carley Elias, Annabelle Vaught, Julie Schrick and Carissa McAfee who placed fifth in the girls 4x800 meter relay, while McAfee also earned an eighth place finish in the 3200 meter run.

Emily Nottingham earned both Top eight performances for Valley Falls as she placed fifth in the 200 meter dash and sixth in the 100 in Class 2A.

McLouth and Jackson Heights both had one medalist at State track as Anna Moore took third for McLouth in the girls 100 meter hurdles, while Seth Holliday placed eighth in the boys 800 meter run.
