In dramatic fashion the Jeff West lady Tigers captured the Class 4A-DII State softball championship on Monday morning in Topeka as Emily Brown brought in the winning run with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring Emma Broxterman for the 2-1 win over Rock Creek.

Having to wait until Sunday to get the State tournament underway because of Mother Nature the Jeff West Tigers were on the prowl when they hit the diamond on Sunday in Topeka at the 4A-DII State tournament. The Tigers opened the State tournament by routing Goodland 15-0 in two and half innings as they out-hit them 13-1 and scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Following that up was a matchup against the number one seed, Girard. Girard held a 3-0 lead through the first two innings but Jeff West got a run back in the top of the third and then using a three-run top of the sixth pushed ahead and came from behind for the 4-3 win, punching their ticket to the 4A-DII State title game against Rock Creek.

On Monday morning at Hummer ballpark in Topeka it proved to be a pitcher's duel between Jeff West and Rock Creek for the 4A-DII state title as both teams were held scoreless until the Tigers struck first with a run in the bottom of the sixth on an Olivia Brees RBI single. Rock Creek answered in the top of the seventh to tie the game silenced the Jeff West bats in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. After a scoreless top of the eight the Tigers got a base runner aboard in Emma Broxterman and with an RBI single Emily Brown gave the Tigers the walk-off 2-1 win and the 4A-DII State softball title. Brees along with her RBI single was winning pitcher giving up just two-hits and struck out 10, while Taylor Metzger had two hits in the game for Jeff West.

The Tigers bettered their third place State finish from the last year with a State title this season finishing the year 20-4.
