Several NEKS Boys Basketball Players Team Up to Win MAYB Summer Kick Off

Six Big Seven League boys’ basketball players and three other Northeast Kansas players partnered up and entered the MAYB Summer Kick off basketball tournament that featured teams from six different States (Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa and Oklahoma) and took first place in the "A" bracket in the 11th & 12th grade level on June 12th-14th.

Garett Beecher and Mason Strader of Holton, Abe Elder of Nemaha Central, Brock Frey and Brett Plattner of Sabetha, Jacob Dickey of Jeff West, Brennan Damman of Silver Lake, Trevor Young of Lansing of Trey Dubbert of Beloit-St. John comprised the team from Northeast Kansas with a team name of KC Legacy and took on top flight competition in the tournament.

The team opened pool play with a six-point win over the Wichita Jets, but lost by one to the Kansas Buffalos and by 20 to the Kansas Weasels finishing 1-2 in pool play. With a three way tie with 1-2 records a flip was conducted and the Legacy team took second in the pool via the flip and were placed in the "A" bracket.

In bracket play the team opened up action with a with a 15-point win over the Kansas Huskies, then a 14-point win over the Missouri Mavericks and to make the Semifinals. The Mac Bulldogs, a team of the incoming freshman for McPherson College were the opponents in the Semifinals the Legacy won by five to earn a spot in the Championship where they beat McPherson high school by 22-points.
