Several Twin Valley League Teams, Nemaha Central & Horton Compete at Marysville Cross Country Invite

The start gun fired for the first time for several Twin Valley League schools, Nemaha Central, Marysville and more teams on Saturday as they started the cross country season at the Marysville Invitational. 

The best team performance on the day came by the Frankfort Wildcat boys who took third of the seven schools competing as teams at the meet, while Marysville placed fourth, Valley Heights fifth, Nemaha Central sixth and Washington County seventh. Riley County and Wabaunsee boys took first and second, respectively and flipped that order in the girls team standings as Wabaunsee took first and Riley County second and were the only two schools with a full girls team at the competition. 

Individually the best area finish was the gold medal in the boy’s race as Brodic Shirley race to a time of 17:15.09 for Frankfort and picked up a first place finish by almost one minute. His teammate, Colton Parthemer notched a 15th place finish (19:41.61). 

Valley Heights, Axtell, Centralia, Marysville, Nemaha Central and Washington County all had a Top 20 finisher in the boy’s action at the Marysville Invite on Saturday. For the Mustangs, Adrian Pishny paced the way taking home the silver with a time of 18:13.78, while Alex Hardin raced to a tenth place finish behind a time of 19:24.79. Axtell Eagle, Burke Deters followed Shirley and Pishny in the standings taking third place with a time of 18:25.92, while Blake Porting finished 20th (20:15.46) for Axtell. Centralia Panther, Dylan Boeckman grabbed a sixth place finish after posting a time of 18:42.14. Leading the way for the host Marysville was Skylar Widmer who posted a time of 19:15.46 to place ninth, while Washington County Tiger, Eric Miller finished 11th place (19:30.93) and Jordan Peterson of Nemaha Central took home 16th place (19:57.36). 

Four area schools all hailing from the Twin Valley League had Top 20 finishers in the girl’s competition at the Marysville Invite. The Centralia Panthers led the way with four gals finishing in the Top 20 and two in the Top four as Sadie Jones and Tamra Jones placed second and fourth, respectively with times of 22:08.03 and 23:58.79. Maegan Koch and Madison Boeckman grabbed finishes of 13th and 16th, respectively for Centralia posting times of 25:06.34 and 26:26.64. 

Marysville, Valley Heights and Washington County also had Top 20 finishers in the girls action. Mariya Moshkun of Marysville earned a ninth place finish with a time of 24:35.39, while Washington County Tiger, Emily Meyer finished 15th (26:15.37). For Valley Heights, Ilexus Rose and DeAndra Woodyard both finished in the Top 20 placing 14th and 20th, respectively with times of 25:48.57 and 27:16.00. 

 

Troy and Horton also competed at the Marysville Invitational and had their best performances come outside of the Top 20 as Alyssa Schmille placed 22nd for Troy in the girl’s action and Deja Tilden of Horton took 27th in the girls race.
