Week one is in the books of the high school football season in the State of Kansas and after one week of play three teams are in at least one ranking for their classification headed into Week two, while eight others are getting attention.

The Holton Wildcats started the season ranked in Class 4A-Division II and come in ranked fourth this week in all the polls despite a season opening loss to a Top 3A team in Silver Lake. The Wildcats just had the contest get away from them against Silver Lake falling 23-22 in overtime, after a failed extra point. The Jeff West Tigers are the only other area team getting attention in the 4A-DII polls, as they remain in the others to watch category in several polls after a 26-0 win over Riverside to open up their season.

Class 3A and Class 2-1A both remain without an area team in the Top five rankings in the polls but a few teams are getting attention in the polls in the others to watch category. In Class 3A Nemaha Central, Centralia, Washington County and Maur Hill-Mount Academy are getting attention. The Thunder opened the football season by beating their rival Sabetha at home 31-8, while Centralia topped Valley Heights 35-20 and Washington County picked up the 36-18 win over Troy. Maur Hill had an open date in week one and will open their season against Jackson Heights in week two.

The teams of Doniphan West and Jackson Heights are the only two area teams in Class 2-1A getting attention in the polls this week each after picking up week one wins. Donpihan West took down Onaga 32-6, while Jackson Heights routed Horton 40-0.

Class 8-man Division I feature the Hanover Wildcats in the polls in three of the four rankings, coming in at number one in the Topeka-Capital Journal, third in the kansasprepfootball.com poll and fourth in the VarsityKansas poll, while not in the rankings for Kpreps. Hanover opened the season with a big win over Axtell 48-22.

In 8-man Division II the Axtell Eagles despite their season opening loss to Hanover (48-22) remain ranked fifth in the VarsityKansas poll this week, while in the others to watch category of the other polls. Frankfort is also in the others to watch category after a week one 36-28 win over Clifton-Clyde.
