Axtell Volleyball Remains Unbeaten in TVL action, Hosting Frankfort & Blue Valley

The volleyball season rolled along on Tuesday as the Axtell Eagles host Frankfort and Blue Valley in Twin Valley League action. 

The Eagles finished the night remaining unbeaten in TVL play with a pair of straight set wins over Blue Valley and Frankfort, while Frankfort went 1-1 on the night notching a straight set win over Blue Valley, as the Rams finished the night 0-2 in action. 

Evening started off with Axtell and Blue Valley squaring off and Axtell grabbing the 25-14, 25-14 victory. Early in set one the match was tied at 6-6 until Axtell strung five-straight points together to take an 11-6 advantage as Courtney Heinen was leading the attack, serving for the Eagles during the run. The lead grew to seven at 15-8 after a Megan Buessing kill for Axtell and Blue Valley called a timeout. Out of the timeout the Eagles continued to roll working the lead up to 20-9 when Blue Valley called another timeout and out of the timeout the Rams found a string of points as Sami Pfaff posted a pair of kills but Axtell quickly finished off the set with a Heinen kill to take set one 25-14. Blue Valley got the first point of set two on a Callie Webster kill and lead 2-0, but Axtell responded with five-straight to take the lead. That 5-0 run was broken up for a moment by Blue Valley only for the Rams to see the Eagles put together another 5-0 run and lead 10-3 early in set two. Axtell pushed the lead to 18-9 and Blue Valley called a timeout and out of the timeout the Rams scored four-straight to make 18-13 when Axtell called timeout to corral the troops. The Eagles responded out of the timeout to finish set two 25-14 on a Bradie Schmitz kill and take the match. 

The night continued with Frankfort taking on Blue Valley in the second contest of the evening and the Wildcats earned the straight set win 25-16, 25-18. Behind a pair of kills from Emilee Ebert early Frankfort lead 4-2 over the Rams and quickly stretched that lead to 10-3 when Blue Valley called a timeout. After surrendering a few more tallies Blue Valley put together their best run of the night with six-straight points to draw within four at 14-10 when Frankfrort called a timeout. The Wildcats responded working out to the 21-13 advantage as both Maura Kennedy and Kyla Hardwick stepped up with plays for Frankfort and the Wildcats secured the set one win 25-16. Set two started off similar to set one and before you knew it Frankfort and double up Blue Valley leading 12-6, with Rebecca Adams serving when Blue Valley called a timeout. Ebert blasted a kill for the 19th Frankfort point and the Wildcats added another to lead 21-10, when the Rams called another timeout and then put five-straight points together to try and make a late run but came up short as Frankfor took set two 25-18 and won the match. 

Axtell and Frankfort wrapped up the night against each other and the Eagles earned the straight win 25-19, 25-16. Set one started off with Axtell working out to a 5-1 advantage but Frankfort answered back with four-straight to tie the set at 5-5 early. Axtell regained the lead but teams traded points, when Abra Shirley stroke an ace making it 16-13 Axtell, but the Eagles then pushed the lead to 18-13 when the Wildcats needed a timeout. Behind plays from several different gals like Maddy Kuckelman, Taylor Feldkamp and Kiersten Talbot the Eagles pushed their lead out and held off Frankfort for the 25-19 set one win, winning the set on a Frankfort service error. Set two started off with Axtell getting out to a 3-1 advantage with an early Anna Buessing ace and the growing the lead to six, but Frankfort cut it to 9-6 Axtell. The Eagles responded with three-straight points to lead 12-6 and force a Wildcat timeout. Ebert and Mikeal Tommer both made some plays for the Wildcats but the Eagles lead proved to be too much to overcome as Talbot finished off the set with a set attack for the set and match point, as Axtell took set two 25-16. 

 

The night wrapped up with Axtell going 2-0 to improve to 7-3 and 5-0 in TVL action, while Frankfort moved to 3-1 overall and in League play and Blue Valley fell to 1-3 overall and in League play. The season rolls along for Frankfort and Blue Valley on Saturday, September 12th in tournament play as the Wildcats host an Invitational and Blue Valley will be at the Southern Cloud Invite. Axtell will hit the court again on Tuesday, September 15th at the Troy Triangular with Wetmore.
