Sabetha Girls Tennis Hosts Immaculata, Hiawatha & Hayden in a Quad

A trio of area teams along with one other hit the tennis courts on Thursday as Sabetha hosted Immaculata, Hiawatha and Hayden in a quad. The action was highly competitive but cut short before all the matches were able to be played as rainfall moved into the area. 

The host Sabetha Bluejays registered a mark of 8-1 in the matches played with competitors switching around from where they have competed thus far this season. Lexi Wenger and Courtney Plattner who have both competed in singles action this season partnered up and went 3-0 in doubles number one action picking up a 8-0 win against Hiawatha, while winning 7-1 over Immaculata and 7-0 over Hayden. The tandem of Nicole Brey and Jena Winkler split up to compete in singles action and each got a pair of matches before the rain moved in. Winkler went 2-0 with a 7-0 and 7-1 win over Immaculata and Hayden, while Brey won 7-1 over Hayden and lost 7-2 to Immaculata. In doubles number two action Laura Edelman and Savanna Metzger partnered up again and picked up a pair of wins going 2-0 with a 7-0 win over Immaculata and 7-2 win over Hiawatha. 

Immaculata Raiders enjoyed a solid day of competition led by the performance of Prisala Hernandez who went 3-0 in singles number one competition picking a 7-2 win against Sabetha, 7-3 victory against Hiawatha and 8-2 win over Hayden. Elena Nine competed in singles competition number two and went 2-1, earning wins over Hiawatha (7-2) and Hayden (8-7 (7-3)) with lone loss to Sabetha 7-0. In doubles action the team of Sarah Gilbert and Eleanor Melero posted a 2-1 record in the doubles number one action, notching wins against Hiawatha (7-0) and Hayden (8-2), but fell to Sabetha 7-1. Hannah Nine and Lauren Herbster partnered for the Raiders to compete in doubles number two action and finished the day 1-2 with lone win coming against Hiawatha (7-2), and falling in a tight matchup 8-7 (9-7) to Hayden and a 7-0 loss to Sabetha. 

The Hiawatha Red Hawks picked up one win on the day as Aubrey Wright went 1-1 in her two matches played in singles number one competition. Wright earned her win against Hayden, 7-5, while falling to Immaculata 7-3. Emily Meyer competed in singles number two competition going 0-2, while the team of Naomi Bicker and JoLynn Grant went 0-3 in doubles number one competition and the team of Sadie Meyer and Bethany Meyers went 0-1 in doubles number two action.

The tennis season rolls along on Saturday for both Sabetha and Hiawatha as Hiawatha will host and Invitational, while the season continues for Immaculata on Saturday, September 19th at the Mill Valley Invite.
