Washington County Wins Frankfort Volleyball Invite Against Other TVL Teams

The volleyball season continued and got rolling along for four Twin Valley League teams on Saturday as they participated in their first tournament of the season. The Frankfort Wildcats played host for a five team round robin tournament with fellow Twin Valley League schools Washington County, Doniphan West, Onaga and Wetmore, alongside Veritas Christian of Lawrence. 

At the end of the day it was Washington County earning the tournament win behind a 5-0 record in action ah the Frankfort Invitational. The Tigers downed all five of their opponents in straight sets each time and took down the host Frankfort in the final set to secure the tournament crown. Washington County picked up a 25-9, 25-9 win over Wetmore, topped Doniphan West 25-21, 25-16, beat Veritas Christian 25-19, 25-5 and picked up the win against Onaga 25-10, 25-14, while closing out the tournament with a 25-10, 25-19 win over Frankfort. Washington County improved to 8-3 on the season with their 5-0 performance. 

The Wildcats went into their matchup against Washington County 4-0, but suffered the straight set loss to finish the tournament 4-1 and take second place. Frankfort earned straight set wins over Doniphan West (25-10, 25-20), Onaga (25-9, 26-24), Veritas Christian (25-15, 25-17) and Wetmore (25-3, 25-12) for their four wins on the day. Frankfort improved to 7-2 on the season after taking second place at their tournament. 

Onaga brought home third place on the day by going 3-2, losing to Washington County and Frankfort, but picking up a straight set win over Doniphan West (25-21, 25-18) and Wetmore (25-19, 25-15) and a three set win over Veritas Christian (25-8, 16-25, 25-23). The Buffalos tripled their win total on the season at the tournament moving to 4-8 on the year. 

Fourth place went to Doniphan West as the Mustangs registered a 2-3 record in action picking up a three sets win over Wetmore (25-23, 24-26, 25-16) and Vertias Christian (18-25, 25-10, 25-16). The Mustangs are now 5-9 overall on the season. 

Wetmore posted a 1-4 mark at the Frankfort Invitational to finish fifth of the six teams competing, notching their lone win against Veritas Christian in straight sets (25-23, 25-23). The win is the first of the season for Wetmore as they are 1-8 on the year. 

Vertias Christian took sixth place going 0-5 in competition at the Frankfort Invitational.
