Nemaha Central Takes Second to Lead Area Team Finishes at Nemaha Central Volleyball Invite

The Nemaha Central Thunder played host on Saturday to several area teams for volleyball action but it was the one non-area team claiming the tournament crown at the end of the day, as Rock Creek beat out the host Thunder for the tourney championship. 

The action started off with pool play and in the Purple pool it was the host Nemaha Central Thunder going through the competition 4-0, picking up straight set wins over Pleasant Ridge (25-14, 25-17), Horton (25-19, 25-12) and ACCHS (25-18, 25-11), while needing three sets to take down Marysville (14-25, 25-21, 25-21). The Bulldogs, while falling to Nemaha Central went 3-1 overall in pool play to finish second in the pool as they beat ACCHS (25-17, 25-20), Horton (25-16, 19-25, 25-12) and Pleasant Ridge (25-14, 25-17). Finishing out the pool play action ACCHS posted a 2-2 record with wins over Horton (25-14, 25-15) and Pleasant Ridge (25-11, 25-14), while Horton earned a win over Pleasant Ridge (25-22, 25-19). 

In the Blue Pool it was Rock Creek and Sabetha finishing at the top of the pool going 4-0 and 3-1, respectively. Rock Creek earned four straight set wins in pool play action beat Sabetha (25-22, 25-10), Riverside (25-11, 25-21), Hiawatha (25-23, 25-13) and Atchison (25-16, 25-12). For the Sabetha Bluejays they took second in the pool to make it to the Semifinals, losing to Rock Creek, but beating Hiawatha (25-23, 25-13), Riverside (25-11, 25-21) and Atchison (25-19, 25-19). Finishing out the pool play action Atchison posted a 2-2 record with wins over Riverside (25-14, 25-13) and Hiawatha (22-25, 25-18, 25-13), while Hiawatha picked up one win over Riverside (25-14, 25-21). 

Moving into the Semifinals the winner of the Purple pool, Nemaha Central took on Sabetha who took second in the Blue pool and it was the host Thunder coming out victorious in straight sets 25-23, 25-20. In the other Semifinal, Rock Creek who won the Blue pool took on Marysville who finished second in the Purple pool and the Mustangs needed three sets up got the win 22-25, 25-7, 27-25 over Marysville, setting up a Nemaha Central versus Rock Creek championship match. While Marysville and Sabetha meet up for third place. 

Marysville and Sabetha dueled for third place at the Nemaha Central Invitational and the two teams needed three sets to decide the winner. Sabetha took set one, but Marysville bounced back taking set two and ultimately the match by winning set three (16-25, 25-14, 25-12). 

 

In the championship contest it was one of the top 4A schools in Rock Creek getting the better of the tournament host, Nemaha Central claiming the tournament title in straight sets 25-14, 25-14.
